So in this chain, how are you using the PnP? Light compression? Little more grit?
Yes, the chain is straight across the board DCX > Octave > Modulation > Comp > Pre/EQ/DI.
I like the DCX first in chain as a chain buffer and maximum sensitivity to touch.
The Subsonic continues to track well after the DCX in EQ saturation mode. I'm not a huge OC-2 fan, but the subsonic remains because of its superior tracking and headroom. I using octave down these days as barely audible during bigger choruses to add heft. Gregor Fris video suggested that use and it works quite well. I prefer the tones available in the Aguilar Octamizer, but it tracks poorly for me, especially with a pick.
I also use the octaver in combination with the Brig modulated delay for ambient moments and it sounds quite beautiful. I often play in the ambient sections to add a layer since the CCM recorded stuff is just filled with layers and our keyboard and sky guitar can only do so much. Bass player to the rescue! Or ego? Not sure, but it sounds great.
I prefer compression at the end of the chain but the Minnow forces it to that location. I use the Pulp N Peel for nice sounding compression, so easy to dial in by ear and makes the rig a bit more punchy. The blendable dirt circuit is a handy option if you needed some more dirt on a given week. I can see changing the PNP to an Origin Cali76 (match the DCX) but the cost difference at the moment is barrier. The PNP is Black Friday super discounted on Amazon with free returns! The orange adds a touch of joy to the board, as well.
The DCX and PNP are cool pedals because they each can fulfill multiple roles.

I keep my compressor near the end of the chain. I like it before the preamp because I want the pre to be the final voice in the chain. I like everything about it, so I don't want to mess with it. I've also put my higher gain drive before my lower gain drive. I felt like I was losing a touch of bottom when the higher drive came after. For some reason it works better this way. I am using the Southland into the Lightspeed (both by Greer amps).

Truly, I could be more traditional and place the PNP first (it has the JHS little black buffer circuit in it), then octave, then modulation, then DCX. I've tried both ways with similar results.
AMS started listing Aguilar stuff today so I've embraced the meme and ordered a Tone Hammer V2 to go with my bass micro synth. My new pedal board will be a sonic research turbo tuner, the micro synth, and the tone hammer . This will be my portable gigging board, it will replace my helix for most stuff outside my house.

I'm sure it sounds great, but I would personally not play a pedal with an upside down cross. Hard to argue that those are St Peter's crosses in particular given the aesthetic of the Warlow.
Unless, of course, you and I don't use pedals to P&W the same
While the same db is a good start it's not the full picture.
The drive one may be more compressed and therefore is more consistently at the higher level. Also it may tweak the EQ to be more mids heavy and cuts through more.

It could have to do with the frequencies more than the output. I'm not a sound engineer, but I feel like bass guitar can be boosted in the mix more than guitars before it starts to 'sound loud.' Maybe the drive that you're using is cutting a bit of the low end and more mids are hitting the speakers. It's the same db level, but the frequencies are sticking out more. During sound check, my bass is super loud. But, then they boost it a bit more because when the sanctuary fills up, bodies absorb the low end.

This is normal. Drive adds harmonics...which makes the tone sound louder (perceived loudness)

Thanks for this. So if it perceived as louder then should I back it off anyways, as perception becomes the reality? For live It's finding a happy medium by talking to your MD and sound guys. Let them know what you're going for so they understand why you're coming through more.

For those in the NAM world I made a capture of the tone hammer with the classic bethel settings on a passive J with rounds. I think I turned out really good.
There's a LOT of compression happening in the tone hammer with AGS engaged that's not being captured but the drive it definitely got.

My photos all look blurry with horrible lighting.
I arrived at our student worship center before everyone else and was able to get some good lighting. Using my iPhone. Samples attached.
