I also really like the M81 for the mid control. A very nice pedal.
Question, how do you like the Vintage Ultra as a pre amp/DI? My church lets my bring my Mesa Subway so I'm safe there. But some of the churches I play I have to leave the Subway at home. I have a VT bass and Amptweaker tight drive for color/OD/distortion now. I LOVE the tight drive for modern stuff and kind of an SVT in a box, but the VT I got for a B15 old school vibe, and it's OK, I like it on the low notes, but when I go higher up the fretboard it seems to lose prescence. I have Darkglass compressor and really dig it. It's always on.Well...couldn't leave my board alone...latest changes:View attachment 1161410
I still have my old small Gator board...hoping to take just my wireless (+Darkglass VU (DI) and SS pedals)...and go DI > FOH, for a very light carry in, many Sundays.
Btw, the Nimbus reverb is awesome with bass...able to dial out the reverb low end mud, and leave it on subtly...
My board, is just a tuner and a reverb for small leads on bass. I was using a Keeley compressor a chorus , overdrive, boss GEB-7 eq, EBS Synth, and a TC Electronic Subnup octaver. And to me they all just suck the natural sound and tone right out of your bass, I bought a $1500.00 Lakand Skyline 3TBS hollow body bass, I want to hear my bass and amp, here is a picture what I have left and using, and maybe soon be getting rid of them. the pictures are off the internet cause I left my small small pedal board at church, down from 10 pedals to these 2 and they may go.
I keep my board small. I have a tuner/mute, my DI and my Rolls for my wired IEM's. 99% of my playing is DI/IEM gigs.
I have an M87 but I find - even after some suggested tweaks - I don't really need it so it may come off and maybe try an octave instead. I also have a filter pedal for a couple tunes that the cover band does. I use the same board for both bands as I didn't want to double up.

When I was looking I found both the Darkglass and Two Notes stuff was much better for more modern sounding setup's, i'm still thinking about a second hand VT Bass to switch in when I really want a SVT sound but i'd still keep the Le Bass always on.
New adds to the Metro 20... Mooer Slow Engine and Kinnetone modifed EHX Freeze, with remote switch. Still plying with it all, but it is promising.

Still experimenting with the VU. So far, I'm finding my VMT sounds better in front of the VU, so I had to get longer EBS cables to go Octabass>VMT>VU, without moving anything on my tight (but efficient) Classic Jr layout.
I've used the VU DI (solely) at church a few times, with good results. It has plenty of signal to the FOH board. I leave the Darkglass SS, VU (light OD) on all the time, and step on the VMT when I want more OD. While the VU provides a nice vintage tone...I get a more desirable "old school" vintage tone, when putting the board in front of my Jule tube preamp.
It's a nice carry-in (only pedalboard and bass)...but I've been doing that for week night practices only, then bringing my tube preamp along for Sunday...

No more Thumpinator?
I had to mount it underneath again. (below the Noble) It gave me enough real estate for the Freeze.
I temporarily sacrificed mine for a delay since I only use the 6 outlets on the Noble.
It makes a bigger difference, to me, on secular gigs where I only use an unreinforced amp on stage. I have a Class D amp and a speaker cab that gets the job done, but at certain moments I'm asking a lot from them - that's where the MicroThumpinator really shined - keeping those super high voltage peaks from the unwanted sub frequencies out of the signal so my amp isn't as taxed. It made an extreme difference in my tone. The church has plenty of power and multiple subs, so right no I'm not feeding them a high-passed signal and I'm pretty sure they're good.
I've gotten so addicted to pedals, I'm now thinking about moving my Noble off to it's own small board....maybe with some other goodies like a volume pedal, but maybe on its own....and putting more effects on my Pedaltrain Jr and powering it with a Voodoo (I already have 2 laying around unused). Then my chain will run through the Pedaltrain and last stop is through the Noble DI.
That would also simplify things (bear with me...I'm crazy) when I do a secular gig and don't really need the Noble (shady establishment and/or outdoor with rain possibility and/or no need for a DI), and if I do a service using the DB I'll just grab the tiny board with the Noble.
Besides, financial responsibility is for SUCKERS!
Makes so much sense placing a hpf underneath...not something you really need to mess with, after you get a good setting for the gig.
Do you think the VMT straight into a DI would sound ok? I'm looking at maybe getting one.
If you do it right, you can aim the pretty little blue LED light out so the congregation can see it shine too!!
If you mean bass>VMT>preamp (or DI box)...yes!
Josh Ham (planetshakers) uses a VMT, and I would guess the drive and era knobs are dimed on "Alive Again" solos... Wish I had his chops, but I can definitely reproduce his Vintage OD tone with my VMT...
I'd have no qualms leaving the house with that.
VMT is a really versatile pedal. I don't use mine for much more than a bit of grind, but it can go pretty far if you want it to. I usually either turn the drive way down and the blend up (favoring towards the wet signal), or turn the drive up and the blend down (favoring the dry). Even with the drive all the way down, you still get a nice, pleasant, light overdrive.
After experimenting, I have my VMTD right after the tuner, followed by the Super Symmetry, Red Witch Factotum, 3Leaf Wonderlove and EBS UniChorus last. I usually go into the amp with it and then use the DI on the Darkglass amp but have a JDI if I need one. Not using the DI on the VMTD is kind of a waste but I like the tones I get this way. So, in a roundabout way, I am doing what you asked about.

I think the Church gig with subs is where the microThumpinator also really shines! It cleans up the signal pre-sub and tightens it up. You can hear the fundamental clearly, not 'pillowy'. I also engage the Nobles HPF, but boost the bass and treble to give me a bit of a mid-scoop. I'm really struggling with trying to find a combination of pedals that works the best for the church gigs, and keeps me on the Metro 20. I really don't want to go back to the Classic Jr. I just wish the Metro 20 had a bit more clearance for the mT! Just a 1/2" more rise on the front side.
Think we're thinking similarly, trying to cover all situations with one board. I couldn't figure out how to do it, with less than the Classic Jr...I really do use everything on my board.
Wow, this pedal stuff can sure get out of hand. I see an interesting new pedal, and think....hmmm, Classic 1...or 2?
