I have been amazed of the sloppy work put out by Gibson since I started playing over 20 years ago.-3-5K instruments with sloppy glue and finish (drips) and their inlays always look like they were done in a high school shop class.

At this price point it is totally unacceptable in my opinion.

Not that they cannot produce a nice instrument but I think overall I have seen too many of them with serious quality issues across many stores and in different states.

Remeber Slash saying his favorite Les Pauls were actually knock off ones?
 
I have no feelings on the issue one way or the other, but I sure see a lot of Ibanez basses on Craigslist.

No mystery there. They're readily available, inexpensive (<$600 new for some models) and actually a pretty decent piece of lumber & hardware for the money. Quite a few here on TalkBass, as well.

I'm impressed with some of the quality coming out of the far east nowadays. You should see some of the schlock that was flooding the market back in the '60's & '70's.
