I've heard of a Ric. peelin like an onion and played a Gibson EB & as a Gibson Owner, I was bitterly disapointed. cheaply put together very light and had shoddy construction & no balls.

Yeah, current Gibson's are pretty bad.

How can people time after time misspell Squier as Squire? That does not fit in my head...

• Squire is a common noun in common usage, and squier is not (though see http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/squier)
• The Squier logo, because of the stylised e and r at the end, actually does look a bit like 'SquirE'

I have been amazed of the sloppy work put out by Gibson since I started playing over 20 years ago.-3-5K instruments with sloppy glue and finish (drips) and their inlays always look like they were done in a high school shop class.

At this price point it is totally unacceptable in my opinion.

Not that they cannot produce a nice instrument but I think overall I have seen too many of them with serious quality issues across many stores and in different states.

Remeber Slash saying his favorite Les Pauls were actually knock off ones?

Squier is a proper name, it's the name of the guy that founded the string company that Fender eventually bought.

With a teisco all you actually need is a whole new bass!

No mystery there. They're readily available, inexpensive (<$600 new for some models) and actually a pretty decent piece of lumber & hardware for the money. Quite a few here on TalkBass, as well.

I'm impressed with some of the quality coming out of the far east nowadays. You should see some of the schlock that was flooding the market back in the '60's & '70's.
