Ok heres the deal.

Im going to guitar center this weekend and am looking to get a new bass under 500 dollars (I kinda picked out the one I want :bassist: )

Anyway, I want to do a trade-in/money type deal.

I have A fender deluxe active jazz bass V with a small paint chip by input Invalid Link Removed

and I have a pretty beat up fender parts P-bass.

I also have $200 in cash.

So I was thinking that I can get about half of what they sell the Fender for, so im thinking about 300 or a little less, is this a good estimate?

And im not exactly sure about the parts p bass and if they even buy like custom basses (well its not exactly "custom" but my bass teacher built it)

You'd probably get a better deal or at least a little more cash by listing it on TB's For Sale Forum. You'd have to subscribe as a Supporting Member first. One man's trash is another man's treasure...or something to that effect!

And thanks for your comments. I do see where you all are coming from saying I should sell on the internet and stuff like that. And your right I definatley would come out with more money, but daaamnn I just have that urge to really get a new bass and also im afraid the bass might be sold by the time I receive all the money etc. etc. plus I think it would be less of a hassel to just do a trade in. I dont know, I guess I will see what GC says their quotes are, but anyone else have any experience at trading things in at GC?

It can't hurt to try but I don't think they'll give you half of what they're selling the new ones for. On trade-ins they're generally looking to keystone. I doubt they'd give you more than $225 trade allowance since they aren't going to ask more than $450 retail. And you probably won't get an offer of more than $25 on the parts bass, if that.

But it's worth a shot.

Hi

Patience is a virtue. Take you time, sell for the max. amount, go and score the best deal on the bass the best suits you. If you dont, you'll rush into it and trade your stuff and take a beating.

Take it from me bro...sell the gear in your own. I worked there for 3 years. They have to buy cheap enough to sell it for what you could sell it for yourself...You'd move it quickly on here. They will not take the parts bass just so you know.

Got any other tips for buying stuff at GC?

I'm thinking of picking up a bass amp soon. I know where I can find a good price on a GK 1001RB (RMC). But, if I can go into GC and get it for the same price (or less!), I'd rather do that.

I'd like to get in and get out ASAP. I'd bring cash and tell the guy the price I'm willing to pay, and get out as fast as I can to not waste his time on another sale.

Seems like GC is like a car dealership. Just wondering if it really is (never bought anything there before).

Trading stuff in is always a bad deal.

They are going to give you half of what they can sell them for.

Why not sell them yourself for the full amount?:hmm:

I know you want a new bass NOW, but you will do yourself a favor if you either keep the basses and save up for a new one, or sell them yourself and use the funds to buy a new one.

Stop ! hold the phone!!

GC has a 30 day layaway policy , see what you can beat them down on it , give 'em 10% and sell your stuff here .

I have stopped ebaying and have good luck here and a lot less hassle and zero problems.

You will get beat to hell if you trade in there , patience man.

I took a rig I had $1300 into and they offered me a 1/4 of that on a trade.

I have talked to them (locally)and they will basically give you 25% of it's current value.

find the cheapest price you can on whatever it is you want. GC matches prices, so as long as you can prove where you got the cheaper price quote from, they'll match it.

+1 on getting off ebay and selling/trading here! I have had nothing but great experiences doing trades and sales with TBers. Unlike ebay, it seems like no one here is trying to rip someone off or get something for nothing. You might want to try trading with another TBer. Become a supporting member--it's worth it and you're keep your community together!

they will also come down on prices without having to match them. they are salesmen . ive talked prices dwon aroudn 25% on new gear at GC before. if they knwo you have the money and will deal, they will always be willing to make the sale.

I actually got a really good deal when I traded my Ibanez BTB in to a shop! I was expecting maybe £120 for it (I would have taken that as I had to get rid of it) but the offered me £200 for it and sold it for £299.

imo thats not that bad a deal on my part! Mind you, the shop I sold it to really is a cut above, they have a lot of high end gear there and the service is excellent! That said, more often than not I'd expect you to take a kicking when trading stuff in.

You are all quite right, of course, but there are exceptions. I got $250 trade in from GC for my Peavey G-bass. Easy transaction, and the going rate on ebay or anywhere is about $300 for these.
