Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my amplifier.

I've now got a Roland Bass Cube 30, which while okay in very small rooms on the floor does not cut it at ear height, at least if I want a clean sound. If I turn up the gain it does get loud, but with distortion.

I want to move away from a combo to a separate amplifier and cabinet. I want a clean sound with a feeling of depth. If I want dirt, I've got some pedals (Biyang Metal End, Zoom B2, Dr. J Sparrow), the amp and cab should just amplify cleanly with some equalization as needed.

I'm thinking about buying a Markbass Little Mark 250 Blackline amp and an Ashdown RM-112T Evo cab. Would this work well? My requirements are cheap, light, clean sound (flat in a wide spectrum), and loud enough. Note that I'll be buying new, there isn't a lot available here used, and what there is is heavy. I'm not too keen on buying used from overseas since I would not be able to try the stuff. Since the new gear here is mostly older and heavier models, I'm not able to try this out. If I go with this, I'll be buying the amp locally (I've tried it out, and it seems fine, even though I did not like the paired speakers) and order the cab from abroad.

Note that at the moment I don't need a lot of volume, I'm only playing at home. However, I'd like my setup to be loud enough for rehearsals. The weight is very important as well, physiotherapy helped to put my herniated discs back enough so I don't have pain, but my spine is not in a good condition.

What do you think?

I thought about a trolley as a future option, at this moment it's not needed. Are there trolleys that go easily up and down stairs? I've got 71 to my apartment. I like the DIY option, but have no space to let glue/paint/finish dry. Other than that I could have a local wood shop cut the wood.

Just personal experience and observations; if your back was injured to where your disc actually slipped, it will be a long time until you can haul more than a Cube without risk of reinjuring yourself. Also if you really have 71 steps, bass or not, you need to consider a different apartment. Going up the steps is not what's hurting your back/discs, its coming down. (Yes I know, apartments in Jerusalem a scarce, only been there once but have friends who frequent).

The real slippage is in my neck, but my lower back isn't too good either. I think the Little Mark 250 with the Rootmaster 112 come out to slightly less than the Cube. With regards to another apartment, that will happen at some time, but it's quite hard to find something okay and affordable.

A trolley with two wheels 10" diameter pneumatic tyres a long vertical platform with short horizontal platform. Aka sack barrow.

Leaning it back puts the weight over the wheels.

On stairs it pulls up using bent knees and straight back. One step at a time.

Going down it bumps down on the tyres same. Pulling back slows the roll over the edge and lessens each drop.
