Would you do it?

I get the feeling lots of pros do it.
you see famous names on different brands of gear. which is kinda unfair..when they make you think your favorite artist is using..brand x ..only to find out later that he was really using brand y. but hey ..business is business..and free (or cheap) can be good.

personally..id have to at least kinda like the stuff that im using.

So why do we see big name players in print ads telling us how much they love their brand X, but a few days later you see them on TV or in person, playing brand Y?

Are they jumping from endorsement to endorsement that quickly or are they not obligated to use the products they are being paid to endorse?

I used Dean as an example, I've never played one but people haven't been raving about them here either so, If the deal is good and the bass is decent, I'll do it. Guys like David Ellefson jump from one brand to another without a problem.

What bothers me is some guy, like Mike Drint having a Squier sig bass and then go on stage with a Fender. Or Nikki Sixx, who has a Epi Sig Thunderbird but I really doubt he ever used one on stage unless is to smash it to pieces...

I've played a few Dean's that I thought weren't bad. And I've played Dean's that felt entry level.

I'm sure that the Dean's in Jeff Berlin's hands are VERY well made.

If your endorsement deal requires you to play cheapo model xx, pass. Some endorsement deals require you to perform only with their product.

I can afford my own stuff and have never been influenced by someone famous liking anything. I have such a mixed bag of effects, basses, guitars, amps, cabs, some high end and some very low end garage sale stuff that I fell in love with. I couldn't get behind any one brand because I really don't think anyone makes more than one or 2 things that I'd want other than zvex pedals maybe.

If I had a signature guitar, bass, effect or amp they each would have one sound that I love, a volume knob and mute switch. I don't care who makes it but I doubt many would buy it.
