Would you do it ?

Hi folks,

I have a view to a used Yamaha BBN5A at my local dealer's outlet. This bass is in MINT condition, amberburst finish. It is for sale @ 1300 EUR. Though, as far as I know the dealer, I guess I may talk him down to 1100/1150. (If this may help you estimate, a new BBNE5-II (Nathan East Signature) sells @ 2650, and a new BB2005 sells @ 1400, both street prices).

This would be my #2 bass (and maybe become #1 on some projects), next to my Fender Am Dlx 5. I actually love the tone of the Fender when onboard EQ's are all set to flat, but I dislike the frequencies that were set on this electronics : lows are boomy and sound muddy to me, highs are way crisp and mids sound very aggressive. My thoughts were that the Yamaha could help me find more tonal variations with a more usable EQ.

What are your thoughts about this ?
Do you think 1100/1150 is overpriced (compared to the new models street prices) ?

get the bass. you can always sell it later and get the same amount or more.

Heheh, I have the exact same bass. I purchased it off ebay for around $850 AUD with a hard case 1 year ago and it was in great condition with only 1 ding (hardly even noticable). It is my main bass now and I don't think I will be replacing it for a while. I think it is a great bass but I think you could talk him down a bit more.

It sounds to me like you should save yourself some money and just upgrade the electronics in your Fender.

i think you can get one in France or Belgium for 800€ ( i've get mine six months ago for 550€ !! in good condition )
it's an amazing bass , beautiful , best quality and great tone
