I appreciate all the feedback, but alas I got bit by another Ibby. I was going to look at a Schecter Stiletto Deluxe-4 with case for $250 hoping to talk them down a bit and I came across an older P/J SR400 for under two bills in fantastic condition. With my past flings with an SR300DX and then my 'Tomato on a Stick' red SR300M I couldn't pass on it for the price.

Sure, I'd gig with any bass that sounds appropriate. Although some of the folks I play with don't want me to play my squier because of what it says on the headstock. That's stupid imo.

my main gigger is also a nat finish sr400 that i paid $100 for with ohsc. hell when i was replacing the neck pup on that i gigged with a $40 washburn lyon p. that washburn is a player for $40. thinnest neck ive ever seen on a p copy. thinner than a peavey fury. love it.

I wouldn't but then again, Ive never met a Schecter Diamond series I liked. If you like it and it sounds good I don't see why not

If somebody doesn't want you to play a Squire, put a sticker over it. My band has a nice logo. I'm thinking of putting it on my headstock. I don't have a Squire, but the same can be said for my entry level LTD I picked up.

As for not gigging a bass that cost $1,000+, I guess I don't have an itch to collect them. If I have it, I want to play it. If I'm afraid to play it, then I won't get it. I hope to have this JB-2 long enough that it starts to show wear and tear through use. I think I'm past the days where I might drop an axe and crack the finish (an Aria Pro-II that I still have hanging around).

I've gigged with mine. I've seen a few others out there over the years. They are well built and good sounding basses.

I gigged a Stiletto 5 for about a year with absolutely no issues. Upgraded to the Hellraiser neck through about 8 months ago. Dual EMG DC40's with single taps. Crazy low, fast, clean action. It's a really good bass with features you'll find on basses costing 2X. It was much easier to play than my 98 Fender Jazz 5, which was my main gigger for 14 years before being introduced to Schecter.

Looks a lot like your avatar, except the low B and without the P mod. In the interest of full disclosure, due to house GAS rules and a recent dream bass purchase, I've got to let it go.
I figure I could probably replace it in the future easier than my Fender (which I hope my son will play and enjoy one day).

I agree. I have the same color as yours and frostyone's 5 er in 4 string. I finally got a 5 from them Custom in purple with 36" scale. It's a masterpiece. I put it against my pre gibson Tobias and it held it's own.

The Diamonds are the import basses. I want to make sure one would be reliable enough to gig with since I have no previous experience with them. I've owned/owned import basses I would, and do, gig with and others I wouldn't trust in that capacity.

What was wrong with the ones you don't gig with?

Tuners that don't hold, bridge saddles that move, electronics that sometimes go wonky. Reliability issues of that sort.

That is a beauty! I never really paid too much attention to the Hellraiser series because I guess I thought they were too "metal". Guess I was wrong.

I'm a classic rock and prog rock player. Never was into or have played metal. My Hellraiser Extreme-5 is my go to 5er and it does a great job.
