Would you lose high end with 2 115s?!

I found that they sounded really really good with some amps, and not so great with others. I used them with some tube heads (fender and hiwatt), and did not like the way the responded with those amps, so that's why I sold them. They sounded great with an Ashdown Little Bastard, but that wasn't enough volume in the end. It's been a long time, but I don't remember really digging them with a Little Mark II either.

Sold one to a guy that was pairing it with a ABM 210 combo. Not sure about the other guy, but when I sold it to him, we made the trade at a music store and tried out the speaker with an Ampeg 7 Pro and a P-Bass. DANG. I almost didn't want to sell the speaker because it sounded so good.

Ashdown doesn't even list a freq range on the 6x10 or 8x10 cab. They are not the best about that.

Bottom line is you need to try it out and see if they work for you. If you don't have that option, then you just have to do the best you can. I am a fan of 15s, but a 410 would probably cover most everything, a 610 would for sure. Like Jimmy said - if you go with a cab with a better range, then it's your choice to dial the highs back.

Tom Bowlus has a cool thread on here that is a 115 shoot out. Doesn't include Ashdown, but he compares about 6 different 115 cabs. Might try doing a search for that.

Cheers good idea but I don't like the Ashdown 410 as the trace Elliot seems better for efficiency and the 610 I wonder how portable it will be...

If someone wants to do some learnin' on older choices, it's fine. Most of the boxes in this specific shoot out are still probably pretty good or better. Some still excellent.

But again, lots out since that time, especially builds utilizing the 3015, 3015LF, & 15PR400. All these (& there are other candidates, too) are "super" drivers. Haven't looked at the shoot out in a long while, but I strongly believe that not a single of these shoot out boxes employed any of these mentioned "super" 15s.

OP is looking for "more of a warm traditional old school vintage sound." So some of the cabs in the ShootOut might be right up his ally.

The 15PR400 (not sure that I would label that a "super" driver) does a nice old school vintage JBL thing for sure. But if a berg is out of his price range, I would guess that a custom build might also not be an option -- GB builders sells a 2x15 with the 15PR400 for $1110 base price. More in the $1400 price range for a 2x115 set up. LDS might be a cheaper option.

The other drivers you mentioned will need to be in a mid-loaded cab - plenty of high end, but not sure that fits into "warm traditional old school vintage sound" that the OP is looking for.

To each his own, of course, but I'd contend that the majority would consider the 15PR400 a "super" driver. Also, the 3015 is full-range like the Faital. Only the LF, of the three I mentioned, requires a mid.

Regarding $, OP says he might consider a Berg. Plus, used cabs represent real bang-for-the-buck. Further a 15/6 with 3015LF & 6ND410 is going to outperform any mass-marketed commercially available 215 & be tremendously lighter, smaller, & easier to schlep.

Try to eliminate how the cab is designed out of your list of qualifiers. Just go listen to cabs that you can, and whether they're 15"s or 10"s or ported or sealed or big or small or whatever, just look for something that you enjoy, because for every "rule" of a particular design, you will find many cabs that are the exceptions.

Thanks that's very true ill see what i can arrange with this shop nearby as they have a warehouse and some of the stock is there so i'll see if they can get it in the showroom for me to try!
