Would you pay 2400$ for a 1974 Rickenbacker??

Hi all....so I have a bit of cash in my "guitar fund". I am a collector player and have around 10 cool guitars and basses. I recently got a cool 1965 Riceknbacker 450 guitar.
I have a Jazz bass and a couple Gibson EB basses. I only like old unique stuff and each one in my collection is kind of rare and different.

There is a 1974 Rickenbacker for sale locally in Burgandyglow. Its really really clean and all original except he added a bone nut and he said the mutes don't work well. Original case has busted latches.
Is 2400$ Canadian reasonable? There are not many for sale and the ones in this color seem to have prices all over the place.
Whadyya think? A good addition to my small collection??

Well, to me the things that make an really 70s Rick really appealing would be the toaster pickup and checkerboard binding. Still $2400 CAN seems about right. The slightly earlier ones I've seen that do have a toaster are getting really expensive.

I can't tell from the pics, does this have the toaster pickup? I don't think it has checkerboard binding. So its not quite as desirable?

Ok, maybe 1$, but point being I already owned a Rick and I hated how it felt in my hand to the point that I stopped playing it all together and took up my old bass again, no matter how cool it looked and sounded.

I like Rics a lit. But about the only vintage Ric I could see myself buying was a 70s fireglo with checkerboard binding that was in excellent condition. Otherwise I’d go with one of the new ones.

That one has no toaster, no cb, and very few people actually use the tailpiece mute anyway. But the color is somewhat desirable, and it has the skunk stripe. If the neck is straight with no cracks, the fret board is not separated from the neck (older Ricks truss rod's adjust different, so don't adjust it until you research it), and the general condition is clean, seems like a good deal.

If you buy it, replace the treble pup tone pot a 500K push/pull tone pot to take the .0047uF in-line bridge capacitor in and out of the circuit. It will add much more versatility to your Rick. New 4003's call it the 'Vintage Tone Circuit'.

I don't think the price is way out of line for the finish (Burgundyglo isn't all that common) and apparent condition. I'd say it's definitely worth going and checking out. Does it play well? No damage from improper truss rod adjustment? Everything original on it?

Are there pictures of the headstock available that you didn't post?

Very pretty bass. If it sports no serious faults, my take is that it's worth the money.

Seems 'fair' (all things considered - it's still a rare-ish old bass). It doesn't have many of the features the "vintage ric heads" crave, (full span inlays, for example) but it looks to be in great condition for a player.

Well, if it's in good shape and you like it, yes. The vintage market is always going to be around and even garbage from the '70's is going for top dollar. You probably won't lose your shirt by getting a '70's Ric. You may have to hold onto it for a while in order to make a profit if you decide to sell, though. That color's great! I'd go see it, fall in love and end up bringing it home, even if it cost $3000, but you might not be smitten and weak willed.
