I've seen a couple of single coil P's where the G string caught under the edge of the pickup and pulled it out of the body.
Not a problem if you're a finger player, more of a concern for hard downpickers.
Or metal. Or country. Whatevs.

Which makes me wonder. Does anyone make transparent pickguards for basses with artier finishes?In another thread, I decided that tort makes everything look better, except for large metallic flake finishes, and, now, flower fenders can be added to the list.
Paisly, too, I suppose. But other than those three finishes, tort makes every finish look better. There, I'm glad that's settled.
