Heck... if it were a 5 string, I'd probably seek it out.

NO! IN 1971 I was traveling on the road and working a club in Montgomery, Alabama called The EMBERS Club, (6 nights a week for 3 straight weeks). On the 3rd night of the engagement, my 1970 Fender Precision Bass crapped out! ( Later finding a pick-up wire became disconnected ). Being from Philadelphia, Pa, ( a stranger in town and being only 20 years old ) and not having a backup Bass with me, I spent the next day traveling all over the local area trying to locate another P-Bass (one that I could afford), I say this because the 2 Music stores I visited, wanted LIST PRICE for the P-Bass they had on their shelf! Coming From Philly, 30 to 40 PERCENT OFF LIST was normal buying and selling procedure!!! I then stumbled into a small Pawn Shop located in the "OLD" section of downtown Montgomery. The only Fender Bass he had was a banged up 1968 Blue Paisley (Flowered) Telecaster Bass with a very beat up case! The guy wanted $225.00 and after an hour of negotiating over the poor condition of the case ( it would not lock or stay closed ), He settled for $ 190.00. SOLD! It was now almost 5:00 PM and our job began at 8:30 so I had an axe to play that night! I swear to you, this was the WORST sounding Bass I ever played! I tried everything possible during the next 8 weeks to make this thing sing, but nothing could help it! I was playing through a 1971 Ampeg SVT rig and it didn't come close to the sound of my 1970 Precision. After returning home to Philly 2 months later, I spoke with a few players who all said that the 68' & 69' Tele' basses really were dogs and I agreed, so I sold the bass to a guy for $175.00 and bought a new Jazz Bass! Though I would NEVER again play any Fender that would be a clone of that Bass, I could KICK myself for not sticking it under my bed, because look at what it would be worth today!!! BUT as I said, IT still sounded like CRAP!!!!!
