I hate to tell you Jive but it was democrats that used the flag.
A republican president and house started the war to end slavery.
I have as a sub...and I'm Filipino!

It was small and not the centerpoint of the stage. Very much unlike the giant one I saw unfurl at a Skynard concert. You should've seen the look mine and my friend's faces!

That's true. It's also true that later, Southern racists (or as they preferred to be called, segregationists) mostly abandoned the Democrats in favor of the Republicans after the Dems included a civil rights plank in their 1948 platform and later passed the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act.
... manufacture of actual Confederate battle flags is a federal crime. ....
Keep it in perspective. Take a look at their schedule. If they have 100 bands a year, then go ahead and do it. Obviously, every band that plays there isn't harmed by the experience. If they are new, only have a few bands a year, or nobody seems to know much about the place, it may be a safe bet to walk away.
On a personal level it wouldn't bother me. It's just a gig. Three of the biggest redneck musicians I know (who all know more southern rock music than I do) are black. One constantly wears a T-shirt with a croc or gator draped in a rebel flag during shows.
If you avoid everything that could potentially offend anyone, you probably wouldn't play most of the music you play. For that matter you would probably have to throw away most everything you own. Some people are really put off by pop tarts or orange shirts. (And, no, I am not eating pop tarts in an orange shirt.)
I know that. But, facts are not always the basis of people's opinions and imagery. If you put up a Confederate flag and ask conservative/liberal or republican/democrat, I highly doubt that the majority will say liberal democrat.
Played a show in front of framed 8x10 pictures of marines that had been killed in action. Kind of felt like I had to give it my all plus some, so I did, as they deserved a good show. Emotionally looking in to their eyes was inspiring and gut wrenching at the same time.
I wouldn't. The confederates LOST, time for supporters to recognize that fact and become Americans. I won't support sedition and treason on American soil.
That was overwhelmingly supported by republicans.
Most democrats did not support it, including Al Gore Sr.
Did it many times in the 1990s. Not a problem.
Would have no idea on how it would be received these days.
And no......... It is not even close to being a "swastika." Somebody should read a little more history.
That was overwhelmingly supported by republicans.

That would still be incorrect. It is more accurate to say conservative democrat. The labels of repub and dem have gone through drastic changes over the years. I know it's hard to believe but for the majority of time in the USA, both major parties had lots of what we would consider conservative *and* liberal folks.
In this day and age, it's really nice to see:
1. Someone stand up for the facts
2. Someone admit an honest mistake
3. People discussing a difference of opinions in a friendly fashion
