Double Bass Would you recommend this bass?

I want to get into double bass, however since I'm coming from electric I figured I would start out with something simple. I did a little bit of research of double bass in general while at the same time looking through ebay. I found one that is very cheap ($430 US) and is only a few hours away, so the "local pickup" in this case isn't so bad for once!

However, I'm still not 100% sure if I should invest in this. The bass itself looks nice, but then again, so do a lot of things that turn out not to be.

IIRC this is fourth thread about the CCB/BSO line they sell.

No, that's sketchy. Buy a nice Shen from a reputable dealer instead.

Heck no. Ebay is not a great place for buying basses, period. Find a reputable dealer and try some out. (You'll probably need more than $400 though, unfortunately)

10 year "manufacturer warranty"... that's strange, it doesn't list the manufacturer. Looks reputable enough

IT CAN PLAY BLUEGRASS, COUNTRY, ORCHESTRA, ROCKABILLY, ETC.

Is there a player-roll in it-- some electronic gizmo? Can we call and listen to the bass play these genres over the phone?

Also:
IT COMES WITH A REAL EBONY FINGERBOARD.

This is in comparison to those basses that come with imaginary ebony fingerboards.

One thing sure seems to be true:
ALTHOUGH IT IS DOUBTFUL THAT YOU WILL EVER REPAIR IT!

Please do not buy this. If you are looking to get into upright buy an entry level plywood bass.
Either a shen (I am not sure about their numbering) or an englehardt c1.
I have had my C1 since 2001 and have not a single problem with it. The only modification I made was buying a really nice bridge from david gage but that was simply personal preference and totally not necessary

Best to read the wiki linked above. As for specific basses, the Shens are solid entry-level instruments. I would not recommend an Engel because of what are, IMO, serious shortcomings in their design and performance.

Hey man, their bridge will never break, and its "doubtful" youll ever need repairs on it! Sounds like a bargain to me.

Hahaha it's okay, I figured as much! I thought it was too good to be true. When I sent a question asking to hear a demo of the bass, the guy responded, "this is local pickup. why don't u come play it. thanks!"
