Nice generalization, you don't me. I don't live in fear. I live with common sense that tells me staying at home and working at home will keep me alive. Everyone else playing gigs, party hardying, not wearing masks, reaching over me at the grocery store, coughing, hacking and whatever else they do to contribute to this plague can keep on keeping on. I'll be just fine using my common sense and avoiding all of them.

I'm with him. I'm in Harrisburg, and I would reluctantly turn down this gig simply for the liability and legal ramifications of defying the current orders in place.

Also, receiving the $2000 fine isn't the only thing - you also have to get yelled at and get close enough to receive a ticket from the officer.
Now if you go by Health class learning, if you "spend time" with someone who really "gets around", you're "spending time" with everyone they've ever "spend time" with.
Similarly, when you get yelled at by and receive a ticket from this officer, you're also being yelled at by anyone els they've dealt with in the past 2 weeks.

Lets say for a minute no one gets busted and it REALLY is somehow only 2 other people there at all, period.
How many people are in your band? where have they been? Where has this special couple that gets exceptions made for them been? It only takes one person to poop in the pool.

I get that we're all itching to gig again. Money from gigging is now a big deal for many. I'd have to admit that would influence me.

This is in SEPA area...was offered a gig just outside of Philadelphia playing a couple of sets for a couple having an anniversary. They say it will only be those two as the audience, but I think we all know thats likely not going to be case.

Band would be setup in a large barn or outside..

I am still one of the people that believe this corona virus isnt as bad as being potrayed. The actual deaths caused by the illness alone are quite small.

Although I believe what I wrote the problem is that it is a lottery, you may draw the fatal ticket, or you may not get anything at all. However as we all live in a society and as part of that is obeying the rules created for the benefit of that society we have to stay home when advised/told to do so.

What has become clear over here in the UK is the transfer and infection caused by people who appear to be OK. So you have the golden ticket in your hand and no matter what you will NOT get ill, however what about all of the people you have come in contact with. Just to illustrate that:

We are only allowing one person per family into a supermarket, as I stood waiting for my other half to come out I saw a mum pop her baby into the trolley and then go to the stand to wipe down the handle etc. She thought she was making it safe etc etc but a simple mistake and the thing spreads.

I just posted this (about gigging in venues in the fall:

I am networking and the venues we usually play are planning events.

When they ask me if we can play, I will say yes! They need these events and we need places to gig!

How this will work? We have no idea so far! Too many 'ifs'!!!

Will our local (health) authorities give the venues 'green light' to open? When? Under which conditions?

There will certainly be restrictions, but we don't know which. Will there be audits?

Or controlls by health inspectors? (like they inspect kitchens in restaurants?)

For the moment all we can do is to wait how things will develop.


But IMO it would be stupid (for bands as well as for venues) not to plan!

But this is about pros working with pros as soon as it is legal!

This sounds like a party gig. (a forbidden one!)

I will not do these kind of gigs anymore until everybody is informed how to handle it!

I played enough of these kind of gigs to know how things can go wrong.

They always promise you a 'big' stage, enough 'juice' for the P.A., decent food, a greenroom, clean toilets...

And we all know how often not even half of it is true!

In 'normal' times this can already lead to problems. Gotta improvise? Okay! Nobody will die!


Right now? No way!!!

I don't want to be known as 'The band who killed it' on that 'Privat Corona Death Metal Party'!

Yes, comorbidity and advanced age are definitely factors. In the obituaries yesterday, 6 of the announcements mentioned deaths from Covid. All of these people were in their late 80s and 90s. They may have had other health issues as well. I’m not personally living in fear of the disease but I definitely won’t be playing the nursing home circuit!

lots of folks with money can do things like book a band for a private party of two, so i don't think that's odd in the least. but some folks with money also think they are immune from the vicissitudes of life and its pandemics. IME: i've regularly seen some wealthy folks substitute money for IQ points, and it has never ended as intended, in spite of their wealth.

i want to play really bad --- i'll be chomping at the bit until things change --- but i wouldn't be willing to be endangered, or to endanger others, just to play, no matter the money.

the reasonable thing to do is to follow guidelines for your area. good luck hanging in like everyone else!
