Would you trade a Peavey Axcelerator for this?

have a 1997 USA Peavey Axcelerator, excellent condition, it’s the only active bass I own.
Seller wants my bass + cash, but has not said how much yet.

NO WAY SHOULD YOU MAKE THE DEAL.

In case you missed the first line...
NO WAY SHOULD YOU MAKE THE DEAL.

Thanks for your input. I admit the EW is eye candy plus it’s SS too. I was not aware of the quality issues since I’ve never tried one. Also, I’ve never seen one in stores, or if I did, I didn’t pay any attention to it.

I know, they have some good looking basses and guitars with that retro vibe. I wanted the Mosrite/Univox Hi-Flyer looking bass, had the money in hand and drove an hour to a store near the Detroit Metro Area which is an authorized Eastwood dealer (not many of them which is probably why you don't see them often at music stores). I have to say it was awfully difficult to drive all that way, money in hand,a specific bass in mind which the store had in stock, and end up not walking away with it. While there I tried the other Eastwood basses and my son tried a few of their guitars and have to say we were a little underwhelmed with pretty much most of them. We didn't leave empty handed though, my son did leave the store buying a guitar though, a Fender Tele so it wasn't a wasted trip.
I don't know, maybe the seller in your case did some work on it to make it a good player, or maybe that one is of decent quality but stock, I'd highly recommend trying one first before committing to anything. It's a looker for sure.

As soon as I saw the Peavey lightning bolt knobs I thought I'd never trade it, at least not with those knobs on it. The Peavey is a bass I wouldn't hesitate to buy. But I'm a peavey fan.

As for the Eastwood... if you play country or something that you don't need to be able to cut through the mix, it would be an ok bass. Not something that I'd say is the most comfortable bass, but if you're gas'n for a hollow body it's all about what you want. Are you tired of the Peavey? I've read thateastwoods are ok, but I usually don't trade for "Ok".

That Eastwood has a floating bridge like a Hofner. I’ve owned several basses like that and never kept them.
I have a 5 string Peavey Axellerator and I think they are underrated. The only bad thing about the Peavey is remembering how to spell it’s name.o_O

Okay, the deal fell through, so I'm keeping the Axcelerator, and Engle you're right, it is hard to spell!!!

$0.02.....

I wouldn't do that trade, mainly because the Axc is a quality USA-made bass that sounds great, and (IMO) Eastwood is a purveyor of cheap imported knockoffs and gimmick guitars of comparatively low build quality. But that's just me, Eastwood has their fans who love that stuff.

OTOH, I'd dump that Axc, too. My experience with them, and same-era Forums, is that they're usually too heavy for me (like pushing 10 lbs). Add a ~ two pound 2-T bridge to an already portly bass, and.....YMMV.

That said, there are plenty 2-T fans out there, and there are still enough players (for now) who don't mind the extra weight. The Axc should fetch a decent price on the used market. I'd sell the Peavey, then put the money towards a used Epi Jack Casady, instead.

Cheers.

Edit: Oops, apparently der deal ist kaput. Nevermind.

I currently have La Bella stainless on it, although most of my basses have flats.
I've never used tapes, so how do they sound compared to say, La Bella DTF or Chromes?

My J has rounds and this bass is more like my J than my P, and I've never used flats on my J.

I am on the keep the Peavey side of the discussion. I believe tapewounds generally provide a thumpy sound and can have varying amounts of note definition.
A few years ago my then GF now wife bought a bass for me, it came with some sort of rounds, and I forced myself to like them. After several years I loaded it with Tapewounds, and now I love that machine even more. While YMMV, the Tapes may well get you closer to the sound you want, without having to lose the Peavey.
