Depends on the motive. Trading to keep as a player? No - I have never liked the T40 and I'm old enough to remember when they were new in the stores. Didn't yearn for one then or now. Trade as a resale? Yes. The T40 will sell much faster than an ATK. You may like it though. Many people apparently do.

The T-40 is becoming a clasic and prices are rising rapidly. They actualy have a great tone, and would work well in any studio. It's an American made bass. It has historical significance as it was the first mass made bass that was cut with a CNC machien. They also play quite well. The only reason I sold the one I had was due to the weight. She was a beast, and I am obsessed with ultra light weight basses.

I would say get it as fast as you can. You would be traiding a mid level bass for a pro level bass. Don't underestimate the T-40. TalkBass is filled with haters that complaine about any quality bass.

The T-40 dose have complicated controlls that take a while to figure out.

One caveat: If the T-40 is going on the wall, you might want to put another screw in the hanger.

I see that you've not held an ATK. Mine was bout 12lbs... pretty much same as most T40's. I am sure there are lighter ones, but mine was a 4 string and had no business being that heavy lol.

Not really.

At one time I owned 6 T-40s . Nice enough basses but the design is clearly dated.

Before you do the trade, check the 40 for ski jump from 15th fret up and the glue seam running the length of the neck is sound.

If I was getting rid of the atk anyway hell yes I’d trade. Then I’d flip the t40.

if I loved the atk I’d have to think really hard about the t40.

Never owned a T-40, but have built two custom basses with vintage T-40 pu's, one with sophisticated split-coil switching options. (first pick) Both are very light, (under 8lbs) and due to the pu's - both sounded awesome. (both sold to happy campers)
