A buddy of mine (who's Aussie but born in England years ago) told me that if you put a bunch of 11 year-olds in a big field, gave them a ball, and told them to invent a agme, the result would be Aussie Rules football.

One game I watched, one of the players literally ran up the back of another player to get to the ball... no-one seemed that bothered!

My bass has a 35" scale and a string spacing of 19mm.

I don't know why, but in scale lengths, inches it is.

This is spot on! String spacing is almost always seen in millimeters, while nut width, radius, scale length, etc. are usually in Imperial. That is an odd juxtaposition.

To me, metric makes far more sense than the antiquated imperial or US customary system.

And I've always wondered why we call it football, when the ball is only occasionally kicked!

It's called "taking a mark" and it's generally how your team keep/take possession of the ball during play.

Pitch is measured in units of time - cycles per second or Hertz. Thus, base 60 math is used. AFAIK we haven't successfully implemented the 10 hour day or 10 day week quite yet.
Any measurement one needs to do on a guitar not related to scale length or pitch can be easily converted to whatever standard you prefer.

Yeah! Metric time!
Smaller increments of the second are measured in metric type units. Millisecond, microsecond.
They are metric divisions of otherwise non metric units.
The year is based on how long it takes the Earth to make one revolution around the sun. Go to Mars and the year changes/needs conversion.
The month is based on the Moon orbiting the Earth. Mars has two moons, now what!
The day is based on how long it takes the sun to go around the Earth. (When we became more astronomically enlightened it was changed to how long it took the Earth to make one rotation.)
Then the day is divided into 24 hours but most of us only use a 12 hour clock.
And don't get me started on Daylight Saving Time.

Then everyone else had their feeling hurt because Greenwich England got special recognition, so they changed it to to Coordinated Universal time, abbreviated as CTU, what the... And it's neither coordinated or Universal. It's like the participation trophy of time keeping.

And we have time zones that roughly (very roughly) divide the world into 24 unequal segments where time is adjusted so that everyone gets out of bed at the same time relative to when the sun rises. But if your uncle in France calls you when he gets out of bed in the morning, I'll bet the first thing you do is tell him what time it is. Lot of good time zones are. And they aren't even regular. They follow artificial boundaries set up by the government that happens to be in power at the moment. Time gerrymandering I think.

Let's continue the sub-second, divisable-by-units-of-tens, time measurement to larger scale. Actually we just need to fix the gap from seconds through years. Once you get past years we go metric again. 10 years is a decade (dec/deci are used in metric) 100 years is a century (cent/centi is also a rooted in the metric system.) So how do we fix it?

Yes, but US money is based on 10. It always amazed me watching my class mates struggle with the metric system, knowing that bit of info. At the end of the day, no matter how you measure your tally-wacker, it's still the same. So it doesn't really matter if your PBR sez 12 oz or 355 ml on the can your getting the same amount of swill either way.

All my basses are metric, as they were built in Indonesia and China. All screws and nuts are as metric as the International System of Units.

I've read several papers that suggested that "Time doesn't exist. It is something humans do to codify their existence." If you're up for a really deep rabbit hole, google it. Not recommended for those with hangovers.
