Wouldn't anyone play a metric bass?

Good grief doing space science in imperial is ridiculous, hard science becomes near-impossible in imperial units.

Anyway, i expect almost all basses are actually completely metric because that's what almost all bass manufacturing uses.
The imperial equivalent is only stated in customer-facing specifications because it's more familiar and because players are used to 34" or 35" and need to know a bass has these scales without having to use a calculator.

When both are stated the scale in mms is likely exact and the scale in inches is not exact.
For example Ibanez SR 864mm = 34.015748031" but this is stated as 34".

Maybe it's just the other way round and it should be called a 863,6 mm bass then.

Have a look at the Ric website. Scale length is listed first as 84.5 cm with 33 1/4" listed behind it in brackets. Sorry America, you lose!
