Wounded Paw Effects Pedal Never Received Through USPS - Need Advice

Just wanted to give an update. I had told Preston that I was willing to wait until the end of the week to see if the pedal shows up or there's any positive news from either postal service. He stated that he was planning on building a replacement for me this week and shipping it if nothing turns up.

I can only hope for his sake that the Canada Post claims process is not as frustrating and time consuming as the carriers' in the states tend to be.

Preston is a good guy. He'll make it right.

I'll restrain from commenting about the Canada Post claims process, given that TB frowns upon the use of foul language.

I actually had a couple of great experiences with claims. FYI, if you are ever the seller and have to do a claim, wait a bit. If you claim after like 3-4 weeks have elapsed, it goes more smoothly since they pretty much know that it will have been lost by that point.

I may be tainted still by last year's Christmas fiasco.

This feels like a good place to reiterate my longstanding point that experiences with the national carriers far supercedes anything with the couriers, who seem to represent the devil on earth.

I've filed 3 claims with USPS on items lost that I sent via priority mail with insurance and tracking, all 3 were lost in transit, never delivered.

Claims were never paid, cases closed for no reason, when reopened, I've filled out and submitted the same paperwork at various post offices as directed by a different case agent everytime.

After a year on the oldest claim, I gave up. The USPS, IMO, has the deck stacked against the consumer when it comes to honoring claims.

I got my EHX Riddler off ebay and the same thing happened pretty much. I can't remember if it was marked as delivered or not but the post office basically lost it for like 2-3 weeks... I think I may have missed the delivery and got a slip then when I went in they couldn't find it. I went back several times a week until eventually they finally found it :banghead: At least I got a great price on it and it still worked fine. Anyways I hope yours shows up or is accounted for, awesome the seller is offering to ship a replacement though :thumbsup: Gotta love the few who are still like that!

my anecdote: i ship out quite a bit. i once sent one item with tracking and purchased insurance through usps. it got to the addressee's local p.o. and disappeared...in that it was never tracked again after that point. the item was never delivered. a direct phone call to that distant p.o. proved fruitless. i refunded the buyer and filed an insurance claim. it was denied. i filed an appeal. it was denied. the local postal worker pointed me towards the consumer affairs division for usps. they only work with written documents. i sent them a letter with printed evidence. about a month later, i was reimbursed in full.

I'm curious about how the package was marked as delivered.
Who by?
The USPS guy presumably...but he later has no recollection of a delivery.
Which is fair enough at the busiest time of year but did the package have to be signed for...in which case he'd have proof of that surely?

I'd assume USPS works the same way as Irelands postal service...if something has insurance and a tracker, it gets signed for before the postman hands it over.

A police report might help for insurance purposes. But in my town, unless you can get the local carrier's office to document they definitely delivered something, or somebody saw the package taken, our local police are pretty reluctant to take a report. Probably because it's not unheard of for something to be supposedly delivered but not show up until a day or two later. Happened to me twice last year - including UPS (not USPS) once telling me my street address didn't exist when I called to check on a completed delivery according to their web tracker. The box eventually arrived after few more days with no explanation given.

That isn't how Canada Post works, unless you pay extra for the signature option. The package can be insured and tracked, and "delivered" means it went to your mailbox, or to your nearest post office, or even just dropped off at your door.

,,,there are a few crooked delivery people. My neighbor mailed gift cards to grands out of town & none made it. tracked gift cards & they were used in town. Could have been addressed wrong or got lifted along the way,

USPS has always been really tough to get paid on an insurance claim - at least in my experience. When they've lost or damaged items I've shipped insured, I've had to go back over and over again (for months) re-opening the case and resubmitting paperwork before they finally paid out. I think they want to wear you down until you give up.

I shipped something to a TB buyer in Canada back before Christmas, and it took forever to get there. I think the handoff point between Canada Post and USPS is probably the weak link.

Of course, it doesn't help that USPS continually operates in the red and has been on a lifeline for years. At the rate things are going, I would not be surprised if mail service in the USA gets fully privatized within my lifetime.

Just an update, Preston had shipped me another pedal and this one arrived today. However, it doesn't appear that Preston is having any luck with Canada Post with the insurance claim. Apparently, if the tracking shows delivered it's near impossible to get your money back. Any Canadians know for sure?

It makes it pretty tough, no doubt. He probably won't have any luck on this one. Just goes to show you what a great guy he is to make this right.

Enjoy the Attack Goat, it is a fantastic pedal.

Yeah, it will be hard for him to get this one. Really, if it shows delivered, either the mail carrier in the US stole it (good luck getting him/her to admit it) or someone in your building stole it and USPS will wash their hands of it. That's how builders end up only accepting to ship with more expensive signature options.
