XLR to USB

The band I play w/ likes to bounce around rough ideas for songs via email between practices & I was thinking about picking up this Lightsnake cable to run right from my XLR out to my laptop. Anyone use this or see probz w/ this setup idea. *Please note: Sound quality is not really important here, we're not looking to do any actual recording via this method, this is just to capture our ideas for songwriting.

For that price you're better off with a proper USB audio interface for $100-ish that includes recording software. M-Audio, Lexicon, Tascam (amoung other) make decent units. My band has been using a Tascam US-144 for recording our rehearsals, and I've been very pleased with the clarity of the preamps in this $150 unit.

As long as you can record off of your battery. I am not sure if it is a universal problem but my charger adds significant noise which is hard as heck to remove post recording when using the lightsnake instrument version. But when you remove the charger the noise goes away
