I'm thinking of picking up an Xotic RC Boost one pedal and wondered what others think of them. I like that everything I've heard that says they don't color the sound. I thinking of using it to add a little extra signal to passive basses and maybe a little EQ.

I owned one. I thought it didn't do much for me. It doesn't color your sound and you can use it for different purposes, but I had only one purpose for it (volume boost) and in only one song. So it wasn't worth that crapload of money for me.
The treble and bass knobs have a pretty big range in my opinion and I think it would work well for what you plan to do with it!
Oh yeah, I owned the bass specific version. And still have the Bass BB Preamp which will never leave my possession...

how do you like the bass BB preamp pedal? i'm interested in getting one, too. how's it compare to other overdrive pedals you've owned?

Well I haven't owned any others...
I just got into the store and I asked the guy for a good bass distortion. And he told me: 'this is the one you're looking for' and he showed me this orange pedal (Xotic BB Preamp). I plugged it in and 'yes', it was the one I was looking for.
I didn't buy it straightaway. I went home did some searching and when I got back there was the bass version and the Trex bass juice. A/B'd them. Xotic was the best by far!

I can tell you this thing doesn't alter your tone. It doesn't suck low end except if you want it too (quite a sensitive bass knob). With the gain knob you can go from ultra clean to ... well, I would call it saturated. It sounds great in my opinion. Keeps your tone intact and adds lot of harmonics and distortion of course. I just love the thing and allthough I didn't try much other pedals, it's just hard to believe there's something better for me.
