Y Splitter Questions

So first off, this is the setup that I'll be working with...

Aguilar Octamizer->4ms Nocto->Mammoth->GEB-7->Boss LS-2 #1
LS-2#1, Loop 1: Moog Freqbox->Boss OC-2 (might switch this)
LS-2 #1, Loop 2: Eventide Pitchfactor
LS-2 #1->LS-2#2
LS-2 #2, Loop 1: Brown Dog->Orbit->EHX BMS->Photron
LS-2 #2, Loop 2: WMD Fatman->Moog MF-101
LS-2 #2->Eventide Modfactor->Boss LMB-3


I have the following objectives/needs.

1) I need to split my signal in such a way that I'll have my clean bass going through my effects chain as well as to the key input on the WMD Fatman. I would normally split my signal with a buffered pedal, but I'm going to be running the Woolly Mammoth very early in my chain and can't really put a buffered pedal in front of it. So, I'm stuck splitting without a buffer. I figure the best way to do this is just to plug my bass into a y splitter and send one male end to the Octamizer's input and the other to the Fatman's key input. How much signal am I going to lose this way given my setup? Is there a better way to do this?

2) I also need to send a split signal to the key input (custom mod) on the Photron at some point. If I'm going to do this with a passive y splitter, I figure I'd be best off doing the split after the buffered GEB-7 and before my first LS-2. I'd lose some dynamic responsiveness when the Mammoth was engaged, but I have plenty of other pedals to run into the Photron if I'm using it in envelope mode. At least this way I'm not splitting a completely unbuffered signal twice.

I'd ideally like to figure out a way that I'd be able to use my clean to trigger both the Photron and Fatman without obliterating my signal or upsetting the Mammoth. Any insight here?

What would happen if I ran one half of my "clean bass" split into the effects chain described, and the other half into a buffered y pedal. I'd then connect the two outputs of that pedal to the key inputs on the Photron and Fatman. Would this wind up upsetting the Mammoth anyway?
 
I would use a Lehle P-Split to split the Mammoth line from the "other" lines, and a buffered multiple-output splitter for the rest.

bass --> Lehle P-Split
Lehle out #1 --> Mammoth
Lehle out #2 --> buffered multi-splitter

Not a perfect solution, but I'm not sure there is a perfect solution. :)

Ya, you kind of set yourself up for a dilemma with the Mammoth, not to mention wanting other pedals in your setup to be first in line. With that many separate lines, I would think you'd absolutely have to have a buffer for the Mammoth or else you'd have too weak a signal. And unless the P Split boosts your signal when it splits, I don't know if that's going to work so well.

Ya, I'm not feeling a good way to do it, either. I have a feeling you're going to have to compromise somewhere along the line. You're asking a lot out of a measely bass signal when you split it that much.
 
I've done the exact same setup with the Mammoth and Fatman, I used a passive splitter and noticed no degradation in tone. I used a jack splitter adaptor (the solid type with one mono plug going into 2 mono sockets) on the Mammoth input, then using one of the inputs for my bass and a regular patch cable going into the other socket for the key input.
 
Danny, were you splitting your signal only into two lines? I could have misunderstood but it sounds to me like Jufros is splitting it 4x. Then again, I had to fly today and my brain is never the same for a couple days, so it's possible I misunderstood.

Maybe if you can draw me a picture, Jufros ;)
 
I think that this is a problem best solved by experimentation. None of us can tell you what the effect of splitting your signal to the fatman and photron will be; we don't know what the load of those pedals is and if we did, we probably still wouldn't do the math. Sames re: upsetting the mammoth. Plug it in and listen.
 
Yeah agreed I'm actually looking into that now. If I have that done, I can just go:

Bass->LS-2 acting as a 3-way buffered splitter
->effects chain
->Photron
->Fatman

I definitely think that'll be the best way to do this. It's going to be amazing to have MP-201 control of the Moog Photron in parallel but also have the option of sending the Fatman and Photron the same envelope and using them for parallel envelope filter applications. I'm so excited about this rig and it's really close to done now.
