Yamaha BB734a or Sire P7?

Hey all,

In the market for an active PJ. Narrowed it down to either the Yamaha BB734a, or the Sire P7.

Which would you choose, and why? Part of me leans towards the nifty engineering of the BB734a (angled neck screws, angled body through, sandwich neck laminate, sandwich body layers), but I know the Sires are very well regarded. I've owned a BB735a in the past, so I know what it should feel like in the hands, but moved it on as I realised that 5ers aren't my thing.

In Australia, they are both at similar price points, with the BB maybe $50-$100 cheaper, depending on your luck.

The yamaha bb734a would be a good choice. this bass is incredibly versatile. it has a passive/active switch. which makes it very useful for having the best of both worlds. plus it's handy for if the battery is drained, you can switch from active to passive. also they're very useful for any genre. including metal.

I’m in that market as well. I’m leaning to the BB734 for a few reasons, including the fact that it’s really hard to find anyone who has anything negative to say about it.

For what it’s worth, I tried a Sire V7 in person once, and the fret edges were actually unplayable. Thats just one bass, and a different model, but it makes me wary.

You should go with the yamaha bb734a. this bass has such incredible versatility. it's got a nice punch, it has a 3-band eq to sculpt your sound, and it has a passive/active switch. the bb basses are really worth owning. I actually own a yamaha bb235. it is a lower leveled yamaha bb bass, but despite that, it has such an incredible sound. it's passive, versatile, and sounds killer with distortion. plus it's very useful in any genre. including metal. if you don't dig the sire v7. then the yamaha bb734a would definitely be the right bass for you.

Yamaha . The Sire preamp is a little too conjested to my ears .

Go for the Yamaha. I was very dissapointed with the tone of the Sire 7. Plus this 6 bolt neck fastening is amazing system for tone!
