Yamaha BBNE2 sound

So for anyone who's had/played one, what is its "sound?" Does it sound like a jazz bass? Anything distinctive or is it plenty versatile? If it is fairly versatile (and I imagine it is with the active eq), anything it can be most compared to? I'm just curious, as I've always thought they looked great (which is kinda strange, as I'm usually not a fan of white basses...).

Fourplay and Anita Baker albums. These albums are Nathan East playing... well... a Nathan East BBeastN2. Don't like white, get a black one like I did. This is one of the most well thought out basses on the planet. It has a sculpted back for comfort, neck thru, isolated machined recessed saddle fingers, pearloid tuners, and an electronics package to die for. Yea, you can get any tone with this monster. Still cant find your tone... just flip the N1 switch and try again. This is the best $1999 you can spend on a bass... Period

While I've always admired Nathan's playing, (Fourplay and Anita Baker fan) his recorded tone isn't my thing. Too mid-scoopy, too extreme-high boosty. Although..... a few years ago, I heard a Clapton concert on TV and I thought his (Nathan's) live tone was fantastic!!!!

As the proud owner/user of Yamaha music and sound products for many years, I am always pleased with the quality, durability of their stuff. Also, with the fancy shmancy electronics in the BBNE basses, I'd bet anyone could find a tasty usable sound in that bass.

Crash, just stop thinking about it, get one, and tell us about it :D:hyper::cool:.

During my 47 yr sojourn through this business I finally arrived at a place where I now own the bass/sound that I'd always been searching for....I bought my BBNE2 last year and its a total treat to play and hear.

I first Saw Nathan at the Knebworth (91 was it ?) concert UK when I started following his career which culminated with the eventual purchase of the BBNE2. It is without question the finest sounding bass Ive played...Lottsa turned heads and after show enquiries from other bass players. Soundwise my other basses, 70's Jazz and 405 Ibanez dont even come close to this beaut.....Yamaha guitars are immaculately finished too.

Ditto on the previous comment. Got mine a while back. Have been through most of the high end and boutique basses over the years and the BBNE2 is the best one I have had. It is my tone and I love it. The best build I have seen and many ergonomic features that are sweet. You won't be displeased.
