Yamaha Clavinova

This is a early 80's Yamaha Clavinova that was left to me when my brother-in-law died 15 yrs ago. It has just stopped powering up recently. The "on" indicator does not light up. I've checked all of the fuses. I just bough an ohm meter today. I'm going to check the switch. How do I test the power transformer? This keyboard means allot to me.

Thanks so much... alan

Hi.

IIRC Yamahas of that vintage had the test point readings printed on the PCB's.

You start from the power supply, first testing the resistances between the leads UNPOWERED and if there's no opens or shorts in the PT, you then power 'er up and work Your way further until the reading differs from the printed one.

I recently had one for a glance-over (in-laws ;)), and as the +5V disappeared in a key area, a problem which would've been time consuming to diagnose without the schematic, I gave up.

Be safe, and good luck.

Regards
Sam

Thanks T-Bird... The power supply checked out okay. I ended up unplugging and wiggling each connection I could find. I bet there was close to 100 of them. Anyway, I closed her up and plugged it in... and, I couldn't believe it.... IT WORKED!!! That never happens. How darn lucky is that! I have forgot how sweat this thing sounds.
