Yamaha Magicstomp EB review - It ROCKS!!!

I agree about the AX3B being noisy in some instances. The Yamaha isn't noisy like that, it's just some of the effects have a nagging lack of clarity.

The V-Amp beats both of them for amp modeling, which is what I'm looking for -- not a bunch of questionable effects that may sound nifty to entertain your friends but are of little use in real music.

I find I'm probably just going to use it for non-distortion/overdrive effects which I think are fine (except the envelope/auto-wah stuff). The distortions/overdrives don't sound good to me.

I got one of the EBs, finally.

Yes, it can do anything any of the other Magicstomps can with the 2.10 firmware and editing software. I pity the fool who buys more than one kind of Magicstomp for different uses, as the EB has all the same capabilities.

Curiously, I find the presets sound better for guitar than the ones in the guitar Magicstomp.

Of course, the presets are mere demos; the real object is deep-edited stuff for your own purposes, done with the editing software via the USB connection.

Unfortunately, the incredibly vast array and depth of programming options (thousands) and the relatively complicated and undocumented access to them is over the head of anyone I know. I can't imagine how much caffeine-fueled major geekness it would take to really do one single intelligent and sophisticated custom patch.

It'd take a month for a determined person to do an intelligent review of the unit. The people who are griping about it have probably just been outsmarted by it.

I'm overwhelmed, but impressed. :rollno:

Has anyone figured out how to get the v2.10 firmware and software separate from buying an EB model? I'd really like to get one of these as a practice unit/effects unit/direct unit/whatever, but there are only Magicstomp IIs on eBay right now. I could always sit and wait for an EB.

Couldn't someone just convert the software CD for the EB into an .iso and upload it somewhere? :smug:

I'm not sure if I should start a new topic because what I just found out is pretty awesome:

My band is recording and before we were mic'ing the cabs but where our equipment was in the basement it wasn't working out. So I tried to simulate my cab (Ashdown MAG 300) on the magicstomp. Here's a quick tutorial to make your EB Magicstomp very very closely simulate your setup:

Go to the manufacturer's website or the manual for your amp and look up EQ settings. It should say XXhz for bass etc. Now, load the STUDIO effect in deep edit mode on your computer and move the Frequency Knobs until they match (or closely match) that of the manufacturer's specs. A few tweaks here and there and if you set the EQ gain to the approximate locations on your amp head you will have a sound that is very similar to what you are used to hearing. Try it out and let me know if it works!

Yes it works through effects loops. I have the Euphonics iAmp Doubler and i use the Magicstomp bass preamp setting through the effects loop. Quiet and sounds great. I have also used it as a reverb unit with a Behringer mixer effects loop. This is now 2023, 20 years since the MS was first released.
