Something about there being only 14 available in the states just seems wrong, but even Yamaha's own site says it, "The BBPH is a limited-edition model, and only 14 basses of its kind are available in the United States."

14 basses only is like super limited, maybe those are autographed ones? Really odd. It's also only Invalid Link Removed which doesn't really scream limited item to me.

Yeah, the "only 14" thing struck me as odd too. There's no way they'd make a run that limited and only charge $1200 street for them. I thought it was a mistake on the part of Guitar Player and Bass Player, until you pointed out that that came from the Yamaha press release. Very weird.

It's gotta be some kind of wording mix up on Yamaha's end, there's no way Yamaha would make such a boneheaded decision like that, and they've done some dumb stuff in the past.

I saw these, they look pretty sweet. I don't know why there aren't more P type basses with either 2 or 3 band eqs.

I can’t find it at the Dutch and EU product pages. I guess it’s primarily marketed at the UK market. Maybe they’re testing out if we’d like modern BB’s with a reverse P?

For now I’ll stick to my ‘79 BB1200.

I’ll wager that only 14 red, signed versions will be produced but thousands more will be produced to the exact same spec, but without the “signature”. Looks like a nice bass!

Would be an interesting bass, for me, if It has a j at bridge. Here as It is is a modified 734 with different electronics (or not) and a reverse P....
The plus of the BB series actually made is a powerful P better IMHO than american one....but with reverse, like my old BB, and no J the tonal character is quite different....

Right, I just meant the number has no significance relating to Peter Hook in anyway, that's just how I read his question is all.

I'm sure 14 means something internally at Yamaha, but I don't know what. For such a relatively affordable signature bass that's a really low amount to produce. It's possible they literally only could make 14 of them available at launch for the US, but that makes little logistical sense considering Hooky himself got 5 of them, and there doesn't seem to be a limit in the UK at all.
