Is it possible to use a 31 band EQ with a Yamaha 512 SC powered mixer?
The mixer already has a EQ built in but its small.

Yamaha Powered Mixer and a EQ

I believe the 512 is a later model of the 88 like I have. If so, no inserts and the effects loop is just an out. So you to have the effect come in to a channel... which sort of defeats the purpose.
If you want EQ on one channel, you can run a mic pre into the EQ then into a channel. That is how I handle the vocal compressor.
Not sure how you can EQ the entire mix without bypassing the power amps in the unit. Would love to hear if somebody else knows a way.
But really, powered mixers are really meant to be simple, not flexible. Although inserts on at least two channels would be really nice.

man, it's funny how those ancient peavey mixer heads like the ol' xr-600 (even the early ones with only 1/4" channel inputs) had a full complement of patchpoints, even pre and post EQ outs, while way more "sophisticated" newer stuff skimps on all that.
I have the EMX512 AND the Peavey XR8600 (pre D Model)
I use the 512 when I don't need all that -
I use the 8600 when I do.
Acutally use it a few ways - but the 512 won't let you run the signal back into the power amps like the peavey.
that said....the 512 is a NICE 14 lbs I think!
