Yamaha RBX JM

The JMII which is the one pickup version is more common then the JMI which has two pickups. Confusing I know. :).

JM is now playing MusicMan Bongo basses, which are much easier to find both new and used.

I am a big fan of both yamaha JM basses, actually I had a JM1 turqouise....I old that bass for getting other, but I still regret selling it, and I look everyday for a used one on ebay....By this time I have seen a couple of JM1 and just one JM2 on ebay, and the price difference is almost none...Both range between 600-800 US$
I actually won a ebay auction couple of weeks ago, but the reserve price wasn´t reached...
If you look at ebay right now, i think there´s a red JM1...
Both basses are great, very nice for playong prog, and comfortable, but the JM1 is kind of heavy si you have to be prepared...
good luck, i want a JM still, so you have to beat me on ebay jajajaj

Still would really like to try an RBX JM bass...the original HH model's anyway.

The Bongo is an excellent bass though, and if you look hard enough you may find a 6 string model for 1300 or so, which isn't a whole lot more than what a JMX bass would cost.

Yes there are several differences, for example the finish, especially the neck, the JM2 paint on the neck feels very different... The JM1 wood combination makes it heavier... The tone of the JM1 is way more treble oriented, and the JM2 electronics are more versatile... Still for playing Dream Theater, or prog in general, i prefere the JM1
Also the feel of the fingerboard are very different (ebony-rosewood) and finally the beautiful infinity inlay only in the JM1 (yin yang on the JM2)

At Scavino, in Torino, Italy.
They can sell online, no problem. There's a "metallic plum" model over there, whereas not so long ago they had a sparkling silver one
You know, nothing really comparable to the craftmanship of version #1 (for which you can investigate internet auctions and second hand models only) but you can buy a new version #2 for its very own cheaper street price.
Unfortunately, whether the '98 model was somewhat a luthier's fine piece of work, the 2004 (and ultimate) was a "MM mono hum buckered" kind of RBX376, if you get me... I had one metallic plum version myself and was only able to make me regret the 35" dual soapbar RBX775 I traded for the JM2...

Cheers,
Wallace

Problem is that, for I'm italian, if you suffer from import taxes whenever goods come in from EU, as is over here for american products.
I mean... Lots of, say, american "only average" priced goods, become really expensive in EU, due to protectionist measures vs. US (I'm serious)... I guess: is it much the same for you? Could a (very cheap) JM2 become unbearably expensive if sent you from Italy? Otherwise, not a proficient instrument, but a safe buyin' for you indeed

Cheers,
Wallace

If you're still looking for one, I just came across the original RBX JM in red, signed by Myung at a shop in NYC.

I didn't play it, but it looked to be in good shape and comes with a case. The tag said $850, so that's not too bad either. Give em' a call if you're still in the market, the guy said he'd ship anywhere.
