Yamaha TRB-6P

Please describe in the most clear and concise way possible the details of what is going on, or NOT going on that leads you to this analysis and WHY. A lot of people here can be very helpful, but all of us have to rely on you to make the effort to put out as much info as you can so that we can be of assistance. Thank you.

I've had this bass for over 4 years now - i had bought it 2nd hand from a friend of mine. Used to work fine. After about 2 years it stopped 'working' - thought it was the battery, but when i replaced it it still did not work.

I then left the bass in ts case for over a year probably. Last month i decided i wanted to restore it to its full. I took to a guitar restorer who dismantled it .... i have all the gold-plated parts in handed to re-coat them again. He tried to see what was wrong with the circuit, but he did not have the circuit diagram, so he cannot understand what was wrong. His opinion was to try and find a new board.

Is it enough detail...?

I own a couple of TRB, 5P and 6P. I love them!
Some time ago, I decided to change the original board of the 5P for a J-Retro Deluxe, but it had to be customized because the piezo. Well, I have to say it sounds gorgeous now, the options with the Retro and the piezo are so big!
So if you want to order a custom one, ask John East. The price is not much higher but it takes 4 weeks to order and qualified person to installing.
I didn't change the 6P because I like to have options but probably I will.
I can record some clips if you are interested.

I had a lovely TRB 6P - but I accidentally put the battery in the wrong way round and it fried the electronics. No sound - nothing!

I took it to a local shop and they said that yes, the could fix it, but it would take them a few weeks to order the parts.

I didn't have time to wait around, as I was away from home and so I traded it in on a new Roscoe Beck V!

I still think the TRB 6P was a better bass all round, but it had 2 distinct and fatal flaws!

1) The battery compartment allowed the battery to be installed wrongly which causes fatal damage to the electronics.

2) There is no option to have the bass working in "passive mode" which a lot of basses have.

I decided that given these flaws it was impractical for live gigging on a regular basis - where you would have to change the battery in dimly-lit conditions.

I now only use basses which have a passive mode - like the Laklands.

The bridge is solid brass.

I just sold the bass. Yamaha wanted $450 to replace the circuit board and I had to pay shipping both ways.
I now have the TRB6JP and the TRB6JPII with no problems.

Can i have your Yamaha contact please as my Yamaha dealer is telling me that the pre-amp is no longer in production. Ican't understand how/why? I would be happy even with other brand replacements.

It doesnt make any difference really ... i'm not a pro bass player. I literally bought it as a collection item ... but i want it to work :)
