Alrighty! I purchased the bass! it is great! Only thing it needs is a nice new set of strings, does anyone know the string gauge and can recommend some strings to try (this is my first 6 string).

It's a 34" scale - so standard length. I've used all sorts without any issues around the nut or saddle.

I was recommended the GHS Pressurewound strings for this instrument. It was a good choice, and I like them very much. The SIT Silencers are similar.
YEP! all soughed now, gave it a good setup a couple weeks back and ended up going with Dr Sunbeams, I usually use the Hi Beams but these feel really good.
Don’t know exact year but I got my 5P new 1992 (see my avatar ) so around that time for sure. May I add that this bass is not going anywhere. Been in service ever since and to this day never malfunctioned in any way. Everything original and working! Even the piezos. I love my Yamaha’s!

Yeah, I know! It’s in mint condition. And yet it’s been thousands of hours of gigging and studio sessions.

I've been looking for a TRB 1005 for years now, whenever they pop up used around here (Cape Town) they are usually quite pricey. I played one at a jam session a few years ago and fell in love with the playability and tone. My main bass is (was) a Fender Jazz 4-string, and the spacing on the TRB felt really comfortable to me. I really loved the punchy, articulate tone ... have tried a few 5-strings over time and they have either sounded a bit sterile or the B has been pretty much useless. A TRB popped up for sale on a board last week at a *very* good price, and I jumped on it. I believe it's a 2004 model and I'm the 3rd owner, but the guys before me looked after it really well, hardly a ding in it. Plays like the proverbial butter and has tone for days. Have not put it down in a week, really looking forward to gigging with it! One very happy bass player here!
I thought I recognised it. They have a very distinctive photography style. It parallels my Pentabuzz (they sold it to a previous owner, and I discovered this photograph later).
Funnily enough, there are loads of basses that I lust after but I have decided my next acquisition will be a John Patitucci TRB!

Just bought this 98’ one, I’m so happy! I allways wanted a 6-string bass, I’m a big fan of this period Yamaha basses!Unfortunatelly, the preamp replaced by someone, and a hole drilled on the top for jack.....crazy....

Weird.. yesterday I checked my 6II and the active coil is at bridge side. Wonder why they changed that on the 100X series since I thought pickups and preamp were the same.
Yes, I think you're right. Surprising indeed that the pickups are flipped on the 100X-series vs the 6II?!
