Can finally jump back into the TRB club. Years ago I owned a gen 1 TRB 4 (2 x J puckups) but sold it. Lord knows why. It was a great bass.
For the last 2 years I've kept my eye out for another but haven't come across one easily accessed.
Out of boredom one day not long ago I had a stroll through my old PayPal transactions and there was the payment I received from the guy who bought mine. I messaged him to see if he would consider selling it back....

I have that bass right now, and like it a lot. I added a purpleheart ramp between the pickups. It has an original case, but the fited case would be nice. It sounds great with EB Cobalt strings.
Just curious.... how long do I have to wait for my #? Days, weeks, months... or as the case is now, years?

Put this together real quick last night on the TRB 6P. The action is so low on this bass it almost plays itself.
I have found a yamaha Trb in one of my local second hand stores, it was built in 98 in Japan. I just can't find much information on this model of trb. On the headstock it has the text TRB-6. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the bass and if it will be worth the $1200. Also if anyone can share some specs that would be awesome!
Probably a TRB6-II. A pic and/or serial at the back of the headstock would be helpful. How many strings ?

That's a TRB6. Production ended in 1998, I'd thought it would be discontinued by that date. My TRB6-II is also from 1998. As for the price asked, I paid my TRB6-II about that price from bassdirect.co.uk a few months ago. It's in VGC, frets are like new, a few dents here and there, but overall in great condition. 1200$ seems the official quote for this bass (at least the TRB6-II when I was looking for one). You can find one at a lower price but I preferred to go the safe way. It's an excellent japanese made instrument you won't find an equivalent in the new market for 1200$ or a few hundred $ more anyway. As for the differences between TRB6 and TRB6-II I rather like the 35" scale of the second model. Check the string spacing as well, it may be wider on the TRB6.
Thanks for the information! So the TRB6 is a 34" scale? How is the string tension on the B string? I've played some trbs in the past were you could only compare it to the tension of and elastic band (just a bit of an over exaggeration).
So I have the 1995 version, and it's overall a terrific bass indeed. Personall, putting a pair of Bartolini G6 pups in and an older Ibanez BTB pre has made it a more versatile instrument IMHO. I found the stock deal to be a wee bit on the 80s fusion side of the sound spectrum - so if that's your bag, you'll love it.
From a technical perspective, yes, it's a 34" scale length. The B string isn't the tightest I've ever played, but then nor is it the worst. I play with a very light touch, so I've never found it "floppy".

My TRB-6p is older than that - a single truss rod model.
Scale length is actually 33-7/8", but what's 1/8" among friends?
I have no complaints about the B-string on this bass, nor on my TRB-5.
Good string selection helps. I have EB Cobalt rounds on the 5, and GHS Pressurewounds on the 6.
Prior owner replaced the original pickups with the Bartolini G6, which sound good with the factory preamp.

I got the idea from this site about the G6 pups - I considered Norstrands, but I got the Barts at a silly price from bestbassgear - always a win when you're in South Africa and the shipping is nearly as much as the thing you're buying.
But I digress.... it seems in all of my years and years of searching through myriad bass, pickup, electronic, forum etc pages, that the 2nd incarnation of the TRB - the bolt on with the 3 position mid - that the EQ is scoffed at and the pups are OK. I wanted a much darker sound personally - hence the classic G6s - and I've opted for just 2 volumes - that's it! The tone is crystal clear and I've found the throatiness of the instrument now comes through. I must admit though that there is something to be said about a nice on-board EQ - not for the twiddling factor, but it seems to be able to "round out" the tone nicely. It all boiled down to me realising after all this time that I really don't like blend controls!
