Because you finger style players love big ramps?
Yeah, sure but why not? If it makes it easier for the owner to play I'm all for it.
i'd guess that it's a ramp and a thumb rest in the player's favorite plucking position....what's not to like? 
Ramp thingy aside, I'm kind of intrigued by the other details - what brand is that bass? Thanks.
a big plastic thing i'd never need...I do like how the knobs are inset into the body tho

As for the bass, if that's what it takes, I'm for it. As for the appearance, I find it odd, but not entirely objectionable.
Looks like the bridge pickup is for emergencies.

That many knobs and switches makes my head spin a little... still, must be fun and comfortable to play.

same: plucking strength (digging in, or not, or in between), but a ramp can definitely help the player from overdoing it while digging in.
