Yearly supporting membership not available?

It's time to renew my supporting membership and I'd like to do it on a yearly basis, but when I go to account upgrades it only lists a recurring monthly choice for the regular supporting membership. The gold supporting membership allows either recurring or yearly. Am I missing something?

There's a little bug in the system for TB supporting member veterans. You have to actually let your current supporting membership expire, after which you'll see the yearly option. And then going forward, you can renew/extend your subscription any time without this bug.

Don't worry - you won't lose any data (PM's or otherwise) when your subscription runs out.

I tried that last year - it didn't work.

What do I do as my renewal will be coming up while I am away on a trip so I'd like to pay early but have the renewal date stay the same, not move to the earlier date which would imply that my yearly membership would actually be shorter than a year.

No, it was not lost as it was only a day or so. However, even after having done as suggested above, I still cannot see a yearly SM option outside of a Gold Membership.

The last time you renewed was on the old forum software at the old rate. Thus, the "early renew" option isn't available (due to limitations in the "early upgrade" modification we use). You'll need to let your old supporting membership run out, then the yearly option will be there and stay there. Don't worry, you won't lose any data (conversations) no matter how long it takes to renew.

Perhaps you could put a note indicating that on the account upgrade page, rather than causing people to waste time (like I just did) hunting for it. Rather annoying, Paul. Or perhaps fix it?

You have to wait for your current sub to expire (on 4/16) then you'll see it in the "available upgrades" list rather than your "purchase upgrades". Next year this won't be an issue and you'll be able to renew early if you want.
