Yes, another DR Hi-Beam question

This is directed to folks that have a Fender STD MIM P-Bass, and use DR Hi-Beams.

The strings it came with according to the guitar tech are D'Addario Pro Steels (.045|.065|.080|.100) Regular Light Guage.

I enjoy the Hi-Beams, and usually walk out with Mediums (.045|.065|.085|.105) which is the case here.

I noticed that the taper would run into the "meat" of the string if wound a few turns, resulting in the string actually winding on the post. Is this acceptable? I've not seen this on my Warwick / Ibanez basses as they have been 24 fret boards, and the MIM P-Bass has 20.

I don't want to actually set the bass up and potentially waste a new set of strings, or worse yet damage the bass. Any advise will be appreciated as while I don't dislike the Pro Steels, I do prefer my Hi-Beams

well in my experience the GHS Flats were the same, the "meat of the string" touches the tuners... but then just leave it be..

I'm not an expert on this by any stretch, but I think you should makes sure the scale of your strings matches the scale of your bass (e.g. long scale strings with long scale bass, etc.). I know strings come in different scale lengths just like basses do. Make sure you have the right strings for your bass before you do anything else.

I've never had a problem with using DR HiBeams on a P-bass. Don't sweat it.

It doesn't have anything to do with the number of frets, just how close the tuners are to the nut.

I've used DRs for years and have had the same thing happen. No problems at all, even with the new DDT strings that people have claimed to break when this happens.
