I don’t know about you but I’m not tired of the many threads about the Tony Franklin fretless.

The Franklin is a nice guitar, but the past colors weren’t remotely interesting.

I heard the rumors of the LPB version, but I still wasn’t planning on getting one.

Then I saw one.... AND I saw the numerous videos posted by a member here, who will remain nameless/cheeseless....

The matching headstock was really the final nail in the coffin, I think it sets the look off perfectly.

Out of the box the only flaw was the finger board was a little dry, but oiled up it looks very nice. There are some small lighter streaks in it, but I would actually prefer more.
I did get some black streaks on the cloth when I oiled it so it may have had some dye applied. Maybe in the future I’ll try to remove some of the dye, but I don’t want to mess with her too much.

Finish is flawless, maple neck has no significant streaks/flames/birdseyes.

Hardware is nice, It’s refreshing to see a bass with a bbot bridge rather than a hi-mass.

I will be installing a different pickguard, and a thumbrest. And I already have Dunlop straplocks installed, But that’s the extent of the modifications. The pickguard is nice but not my style(At least it’s didn’t come with tort)

This is my first P/J, and the bridge Dimarzio is the friggin bees knees, and balances very well with the P. I usually prefer a vol/blend/tone knob set up, but the 3 way switch is extremely nice and easy to use.

The stock strings are probably going to go fairly quickly, I’ll experiment with Pyramid flatwounds but I’m expecting to go back to my favorite EB rounds.

Here she is with a couple of her sisters. (Plastic is still on the pickguard)

All three of those are ridiculously cool.

I didn’t like the stock strings, I hear tale they are sunbeams.

I had tried flats on another fretless a while back and didn’t like them.

I had some EB cobalt flatwounds from another bass and I’m going to give them a trial. So far they sound good.

The Franklin does seem to sound good no matter what strings are on it, based on another members videos.

I did end up shimming the neck, but I don’t think I have Pbass that I haven’t shimmed the neck on.

Update:

She’s still wearing the flats. They do sounds great, but I’m itchin’ to try some 40-95 rounds on her... maybe I’ll do that tonight....

I forgot to mention the weight, I don’t have an exact measurement, but she’s one of the lightest P basses I own. For sure sub-9lbs.

I’m not a neck snob but the neck is a slightly less than normal fatness P neck, not remotely in jazz territory, but overall wonderful.

The drop D thingie is the first I have had in 20 years, and it seems a bit touchy, I can’t seem to get it to stay in tune if I flip back and forth (E goes sharp when I flip back) I’ll mess with it more if I find a need for it. I think some beeswax on the adjustment screw will do it.

I play with a pick predominantly, but I do like a thumbrest, I’m not drilling extra holes, so imma try double sided tape and ebony...

Question: in the case there is a 6 foot long T-handle Allen wrench for the truss rod, AND a 5 foot longish instrument cable. What’s so special about this cable? It seems kinda odd to have as case candy...

The pickguard was less fugly than tort, but still not my style, so....

Super hard to photograph pink mirror... and added Amp knobs...
