A P bass! Nice chunky, wide P neck with vintage radius. Essentially a P like you build your J bass.
John Suhr - Living legend. Fine gentleman in the old school way. Could have worked alongside Leo and Fullerton. Best set-ups in the business. Not as known in the world of bassists.......... yet! Look him up on the Small Builders forum of the Gear Page. Major contributor to the modern instrument as we know it. Sorry John, couldn't help it.... I know from experience...... 
I don't think I could contain the credit card #'s if that were available , especially in LPB .
I think the preamp sounds quite good if used sparingly, but yeah a passive option makes too much sense. My only suggestion if John is reading this is to tweak the preamp by lowering the boost / cut limits to make the controls more useful and accurate to dial in the sound you want.
I happen to like the 20 db boost cut from the preamp because It allows you to get a crispy scooped sound or a good mid boost depending on how you turn the knobs.
It's a personal thing, and I understand why a company might offer a design that everyone can use, but I still think that slightly decreasing the range would improve the accuracy and noise and you probably wouldn't miss the added boost/cut, unless you like to crank everything up to ten.
Just my opinion.
It's official.. my Suhr Jazz (pic at start of post) is at Carey's shop being "Nordyized". In a few short weeks my Suhr will be sporting the Nordy 2-band pre with tone control, some rounded jazz pup covers (keeping the Suhr singles in cuz they kick butt) and a truss rod cavity routed in my pickguard. This will be my only 4-string when I get it back. Can't wait!

I tried a Suhr bass a few years ago. I was very excited but when I got it it sounded very flat and dull. Alder rosewood combo. It was interesting because I also tried a Pensa- Suhr a few years before that from Rudy's and the bass was amazing. Best jazz bass I ever played. I was expecting the same sound and feel. Pensa-Suhr used Fralin pups at that time. I liked the neck much better on the Suhr bass but the tone was not the same. I also had bought a couple of Suhrs preamps from John when he was working for Fender because I thought they were the best 2 band pres around. Tried the pre with several single coil pups. Avella (sp?) also used Suhrs pre when he first started building basses.

That's the exact opposite of what a Suhr does and what they are known for perhaps some dead strings , cable or amp was a factor .
It could have been the strings. I had it on approval so I didn't want to spend the cash on strings. If the strings were the culprit they were really dead. Eden with Epifani cabs were used. I don't remember if the pups were singles or the Humphries. I would like to try another one.
