There is not shame in the buyer changing his mind, though having me drive 45 minutes to meet him is basically saying that he is committed to the transaction. Had a speaker been blown or knobs broken/missing or other undisclosed defect arise, I would understand his reaction that I was trying to pull a "bait and switch" on him. The amp was in perfect shape and I even thoroughly cleaned it.

If he would have said, "Oh gee. It is bigger/heavier than I thought....." or something like that I would be frustrated but understanding. Had he tried to give me money for my gas and time I would have probably refused.

Again, lesson learned. You want to buy my stuff. You come to me or pay me a delivery fee regardless to if you buy the merchandise.

I do geographic and logistical background checks on ALL CL transactions I deal with. As much mapping of the area/region if I'm going to look at something as well as setting a stage if they're coming to my home to view something I have listed.

Most transactions have gone fairly well. A few flakes but not anything caustic or negative.

I have generally had pretty good transactions on both Craigslist and Facebook, once a buyer shows up to take a look. I live in a mid-sized Kansas city, so people are generally honest and courteous. My rules:

I do not go anywhere to meet a prospective buyer. They need to come to me.

No one comes in the house. I put the item in my garage and the transaction takes place in front of the garage. Electricity is available to test, plus if any other equipment is needed to test, like an instrument or a speaker cab, I will provide the junkiest stuff I have.

On Craigslist, I do put my cell number in the contact info, as a lot of people won't email via Craigslist email relay, but they will text. To combat scammers, I state in the ad that I will respond to texts only from my local telephone area code and the adjoining area code. If outside those area codes, I require a live phone call.

No shipping. No payment apps. Cash only.

when it comes to selling things on CL, I've had good luck. Not too much douchebaggery and mostly if someone is driving to me, I have told them. This price is flat. Not negotiable at all. if you are going to come and offer me less, don't bother. I'm not that desperate. That immediately stopped people renegotiating at my door
