Yet another Craigslist Wack-A-Doodle!

So I listed a solid-state Fender guitar amp for $300 on Craigslist. I got a text from a guy that was interested in my amp. He asked me a bunch of questions about the amp (size of speakers, date, working condition, etc.) He explained that he lived about 2 hours away. He asked if I would be willing to meet half-way. After pondering I said yes. He recommended the mall in a half-way city. I recommended a Guitar Center near that mall. (That way if he wanted to try it out we could bring it into the GC.)

We agreed that we would leave immediately and meet about the same time. I got to the GC parking lot a little early and waited 15 minutes for him after driving for 45 minutes to get there.

He shows up and I show him the amp. I show him the footswitch and he asks what cord goes to it. I show him the 1/4 jack cord. He then asks if I have the power cord. I realize that I forgot the IEC cord in my dash to get out the door. He says, "I tell you what. I'll buy the amp for 20 dollars less or you can mail me the cord." I reply, "Nah........."

The nice older guy immediately angrily blows up, "I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO DO THIS TO ME!!!" He then storms of to his truck and drives away.

I stood there stunned. Had he let me finish I would have offered to buy one at GC for $5 or there is a GoodWill across the street that will sell them for $.50 to $1.

The guy acted like I had done him a HUGE disservice and was trying to cheat him (out of a power cord?).

BTW, who doesn't have extra cords lying around anyway?

Had he met me at my house I could have given him one or two.

Yup. Chuck the old/busted stuff, but keep the cords.

I don't understand his rage. He acted like a spoiled brat kid. He certainly did not win by not sweet talking me or having a civil negotiation. The amp was already priced to move and having done him a favor by driving 45 minutes out of my way, I did not feel much about lowering the price. Maybe he expected me to run after him saying that I would lower the price of the amp.

The thing is he had to drive 1 hour home without an amp and wasted his time.

I will never drive to meet a buyer unless it is well worth ($$$) my while to do so. Also I will keep a spare power cable in my truck. For all I know there might be one in there but was not given a chance to search my truck.

I sold an amp on Craigslist back in 2011, and that went fine. Haven't dealt through it since, but I usually hear the site mentioned as part of some crazy story like this. It's anonymity seems to attract the wackos.

So let me get this straight. Guy tries to kidnap you with the best intentions of making chili with your entrails and you stick a knife in the plan by meeting in a very public place instead of an anonymous parking lot. Then you lurch out of his grasp with the cord thing and make your escape. I’d be mad too. Would have been the perfect crime. Nobody comes looking for the bass player.

Our drummer listed his like new condition MIJ gorgeous Tama drums. Set the price at something reasonable. Seriously reasonable. Prospective buyer texts him says:

Buyer: I'll give you two hundred dollars
Friend: No, I'm going to keep the set as I don't need the money if I don't get close to my price, I'm just trying to clear up space and sell off unused drums
Buyer: What's your lowest price?
Friend: I'd go as low as $800
Buyer: You'll never sell it for that. Here is a new ad for a completely different set, made somewhere else out of completely different materials and not even the same set for less money.
Friend: That's not my set and no. I'm just going to keep it
Buyer: You're an idiot, more inflammatory words... I'll give you $400

My friend kept talking to him, despite his ignornace and abuse. Needless to say, no sale.

This post greatly concerns me. A, as a potential warning or cry for help. B knowing that no one really does care about us.

Obviously a scammer. When they ask stupid questions they're likely trying to engage you further for who knows what reason, likely to get more info from you. Like your home address etc.

I bought an SVT CL and 410 cab off CL once. Went to dudes house and tried the equipment. The head came with a road case. When i got home and unloaded it, i noticed i didn't take the power or speaker cable. I didn't sweat it much. I figured it was either a mistake or he didn't want to give up the cables. No biggie. I just bought extra ones.
Why a dude would storm off after driving 45 min without trying to come up with a resolution is just silly on his part. Sucks it ended that way.

Yes it was my fault for not double checking and bringing the cord, but I was in a hurry to meet him.

Remember we were parked in front of a Guitar Center. I could have thrown a rock through the storefront windows even with my rotator cuff injury.

Had the guy not stormed off in a huff I would have gladly bought him the item below. I might haven even been able to sweet talk a sales person to giving me a used one that they have behind the counter.

Welcome to why I stopped using Craigslist years ago. My last listing there was an amp. I got two or three dozen replies to my ad, all but two of which were scammers or fruit loops. I ended up selling the amp to a dad buying for his band kid, who took the trouble to come to my house with cash in hand to test drive it with my rig. Once he was satisfied, I unplugged the amp and wrapped up the cord and all for him, and away it went. It was a satisfying deal at the end, but it took two weeks of BS with Craigslist to get there. All my musical sales since have been either here or eBay.
