I just recently started playing in a new project that consists of one guitarist, a drummer, and myself. I'm currently looking in to picking up a pedal to add a bit of grit and fill in some sonic voids. At the moment the top two pedals in my price range (at the very top) are the Darkglass Alpha omni and Micro tubes vintage. I'm not a huge fan of the digital buzz mess I see coming from alot of the distortion pedals, nor am I a fan of the "sound like an Ampeg without buying an Ampeg" tone. I want to keep as much punch in the gut low end as possible whilst adding just enough grit to fill the sound out. The music retailers in the area are very limited in bass focused selections so outside of a three hour journey through the swamp fighting off gators and coonasses, play before pay isn't much of an option. The local Guitarmart does have a pro-co rat II in stock.
We play mostly southern bred hard rock. More along the lines of the biker bar friendly AC/DC, Skynard, Van Halen realm of things.
Current setup:
G&L SB-2 with D'addario chromes. D standard tuning with occasional drop C. Finger picking.
