Yet Another 'Should I Quit' Thread

I decided to quit today due the lead guitarist really getting on my nerves. I clearly stated I would be more than happy to do the gig, but now everyone is saying no. I knew I should have waited. Beforehand, I suggested we all practise the songs so we know them like the backs of our hands, due to the fact a new song had been chosen by the guitarist without anyone's consent. The guitarist then had a fit and started spouting abuse, including false homosexual accusations, which I have been facing all too often by his hand.

Nope you should not have waited. Don't feel bad, just find new people to work with. They have time to find a bassist before May, so if they are not ready for the gig they really cannot blame you. Go forward and don't look back.

Very fair of you to volunteer to do the gig. Don't burn bridges if you don't have to. What others do is not under your control. Now that you have spoken up, they all agree with you. How convenient!

Making false allegations is called slander. Like that's going to motivate you to stay with the band. For what? More abuse?

This is all a good lesson on figuring out what you want, taking a stand, and standing by your decision especially when all you are doing is exercising your right of free speech and really not doing anything wrong or hurting anyone. IMO, it's only your guitarist's distorted perception of things that is causing a problem.

This guitarist dude is a truly ugly, nasty, toxic individual. There is no winning, or even peace with a person like this in your life.

I am in a 3 piece with a few personal friends and that sounds like what we do everypractice....We play our 45 minute set, dick around for half an hour, play another 45 minutes, eat, 45 more minutes, game of basketball, pack up. Haha.
