Oh, I forgot to post a story. Its not really so much "you cant do that", though. But its a good story.
I went to play open mic with a guitarist friend of mine. We met at his house, cuz he already has a bass and amp of his own. We packed up the gear we were taking, his guitar and amp, and a bass for me to play. He refused to pack up the amp for the bass though. I told him I needed an amp too, and he said I could just "play through the PA", cuz no one cared about the tone of the bass.
I got mad of course, and said we could drop by my place and get my amp then, he still refused, standing on his claim that only a guitar needed an amp.
We get to the place putting on the show, and they ask about our gear. He tells them he has HIS amp, but doesnt speak for me, leaving ME to say I dont have an amp. So I do, and they get grumpy. We had to spend like ten minutes getting the bass to play through the PA, while the whole room watched. At the end I got to tell everyone that he was the reason for the whole mess, though. So at least he was the one that looked foolish
