You can't funk a Rickenbacker, ha!

In the mid '80s, at 19 years of age, I auditioned for a much older, very popular local funk band. I arrive, open my case and pull out my '73 mapleglo 4001 and everyone has this look on their face that says "Ugh...great. Let's get this over with". Two songs later, I was asked to join. It had never occurred to me for a second that I couldn't play any particular type of music on the first really nice bass I'd ever owned. Making such assumptions is silly.
