Sure, bass players know that. The populace does not.AFAIK, nobody here said it was.
Went through some of Dynasty's tunes. All very catchy and commercial. Here's the bass line I liked best.
In the mid '80s, at 19 years of age, I auditioned for a much older, very popular local funk band. I arrive, open my case and pull out my '73 mapleglo 4001 and everyone has this look on their face that says "Ugh...great. Let's get this over with". Two songs later, I was asked to join. It had never occurred to me for a second that I couldn't play any particular type of music on the first really nice bass I'd ever owned. Making such assumptions is silly.
Our old pal Johnny Lee Long dropped a new one with him on a 4003 the other day... I'll have to find it and post it here. He can lay down funky grooves with the best of them.
Man, that Silvers gotta be big. He makes the Rick look like short scale bass. Thanks for this thread, Jeff Scott.
One of my 4003W’s was strung with gold flats. I loved the funk sound I could get out of it.

You can funk anything. As the great and late Bob Cranshaw used to say, "a bass is a bass".
Check out Johnny Lee Long playing a Rickenbacker. He most surely slaps on a Ric and makes it look easy.
