You may only have TWO basses.

Always a tough one....

probably my Rob Allen Deep 5 and MB2 "blondie"

But Blondie might loose to my new Tom Clement Piezo 6....its incredibly versatile.

Thanks I am truly honored that you would place my bass in such nice company.

The "Steve21" P-bass (My modded-to-hell by me Squier)
Some sort of custom 7 string. Probably Bee. Most likely Bee, as thinking of something like FunkyThumb's but 7 strings and probably a graphite neck/board. Big old single Delano MM pup. 3-band EQ.

edit: Actually thinking about it, if I could have my own "Fenderish" instrument made, it would probably be based off the Steve21 P-from-hell but probably would be a 5 string J. With reverse P/J EMG pickups and no vol/tone controls. Honda Element Orange, of course. Maple neck with no dots.

Wow! Great thread! Wish I had pictures....

Tough call, but if I had only 2 I would pick:

- '65 P Bass - Rosewood fretboard
- Sadowsky NYC - Maple fretboard

The Fender is pure classic bass tone and the Sadowsky can dial in a ton of great playable tones from hi-fi to classic on steroids.

That's my choices - both 4 strings!

Rock 'n roll!!

My two main basses are now:

my 2008 '62 USA RI Fender Jazz with Nylon Tapewounds <- finally came in this week and it's beautiful
my 2007 MTD Z6 fretless - My modern tone bass - easy to play and sounds good!

Er... and if I might, I tend to carry around my little Ashbory in case i need some upright sounds... ;-)

Nice basses guys!

right now I have a Fender Geddy Lee and an Epi Allen Woody....Im quite happy the way things are....dont see a need for anythingelse right now...but if I had to Id change the Epi to a gibby Les Paul Recording...I had one in the 70's and it can do almost anything...That along with the Geddy Lee, would be just about perfect...

Wow, that's a tough call.

I know without a doubt one of the two would be a G&L L-2000. That thing can do pretty much anything you want.

For number 2 I would say a a Tobias Signature 6 string. With those two basses you can accomplish anything you want, in pretty much any range.

In late August I will have paid off the layaway on my second bass, which is the same model as my current bass, just different in color. My current bass is a Natural 55-94 Deluxe from '04, and my second bass will be a very special '98 TTSunburst 55-94 Deluxe, both with exquisite birdseye maple fingerboards.

The only problem I'm going to have is "which one should I play tonight?".

I'll post pics of both when the new (old) one gets here.

Hypothetically speaking (as I couldn't pare down to 2 in real life...) a great vintage P bass and a modern 5 string Jazz style would cover a LOT of ground. So mine would probably be:

and the Sadowsky 5'er:
