@Ed Fuqua Nice! I love playing in that cordless trio format. Have been 10 years on a steady Wednesday night gig in that configuration. Our stage doesn't look nearly as classy, though...

It's an experience that is humbling/invigorating/frightening/joyous pretty much every single time. I do sessions with Jeff a couple of times a week and once a week with Jed, mostly workshopping his tunes....

You do understand that DB in the thread title stands for double bass? And they're not talking about drum pedals?
Oh sorry. I thought it was for database ( DB ), where people post their YouTube videos. My tech brain was dominating my music brain. Oh well, thanks for the head's up. I deleted it. Too bad because this is a really cool thread. I guess that why I see all those uprights ( now I get it ). Any suggestions for a more appropriate thread?

I searched the BG forums and didn't find one, but if you go to the recordings forum there is a sticky about a youtube group that you could join. Maybe ask in that thread and someone can direct you to some existing threads. http://youtube.com/group/talkbass
Here's one from about a month ago with Gabe Evens and Mike Hyman. These gentlemen are two of my all time favorite partners in crime!
@Keyser Soze Me too... Mike Hyman is a beast. I am still in awe of what he is able to get out of the bass/snare/hats/single cymbal setup he brings to most gigs. It's no wonder he was touring with Joe Henderson when he was 19, and went on to tour with Stan Getz and Gary Burton and many others shortly after. He resettled in our area about 6 years ago, and is an optician by day but plays most nights. We are incredibly fortunate to have him back in our neck of the woods.
I also play with some guys who opted for the day job/career and secure family life rather than the pro musician lifestyle who absolutely bring it at a very high level as players. But not like this guy (Hyman)! Sheesh, what a beast! You can just smell that "monster gene" a mile away. They're on another wavelength. You're lucky to be playing with him (and he's lucky to be playing with you.) Gabe Evans is not a bum, either. What a great scene you guys have. You all sound fantastic! Bravo! Post another track, if you've got one.
Thanks! We've got 4 more that we cut in our little 90 minute session that day. I think the guy in charge of social media and promotion at the U will want to space them out, but when they release I'm happy to post them here!
The rhythm section interplay is outstanding.
The minimal drum set up reminded me of these duos I did on the radio with the great Alvin Fielder, a good friend we lost at the beginning of this year:
Always amazing what a good drummer can do with a snare drum! How did you get the lights to do that at the end?
