Jimmy Page was the session guitarist here, I believe it's a Telecaster and it sounds great throughout,

There are just too many to name a single favorite. But one that jumped right into my head was Gary Moore's "Still Got the Blues For You".

I always felt like he was ripping of santana "europa" which I do love the guitar in....

And Billy Gibbons had quite a few good ones

And, surprisingly enough, my very good friend Larry Ashurst on Link Removed - a very tasteful and melodic solo, imo. I've always dug this one. What do you think? Apologies for the less than stellar quality, it's quite an old recording now. Any of you metal fans out there like to try and guess the name of the singer?

32 years after first hearing that solo I still listen with complete jaw-on-the-floor amazement at its combination of substantive musicality, unique inventiveness, and astonishing chops.

Both are playing lead at the same time at different points, I believe.

I was going to say anything by Derek and the Dominos. The album is phenomenal. I love the ending to "Why Does Love got to be so Sad?", "Anyday", and "Keep on Growing".

Other than that, the lead parts to "Ramblin' Man" (Dickey Betts), "Hitch a Ride" by Boston, and "Foreplay/Long Time" by Boston. The most perfectly produced piece of art I've ever heard.

Also, I love to hold the groove over an awesome guitar solo. I don't mind giving our shorter necked brothers a little love.

Ritchie Blackmore: Highway Star...off Made in Japan

...followed closely by Burn...off made in Europe, Spotlight Kid, Kill the King...

...and about everything else he ever did. (Sure wish he was still rockin')

Michael Schenker's work with UFO (especially SITN) and early MSG is good stuff also.

Jay Graydon's solo on Steely Dan's Peg is a killer, also Dean Parks' talkbox jamming on Haitian Divorce is cool, although I'm not sure if you can call it clearly a solo. Allan Holdsworth on Tony Williams' Fred is great - and one of the fastest guitar solos ever!
George Benson is also one of my all time favourite soloer, along with his scat singing, that really is pure silk <3
