When you purchase a new bass what are your top 3 bass must haves ?

A, straight neck that’s comfortable, it’s in tune or the ability to adjust, and no issues with the electronics.

Bonus points for no evidence of physical abuse, not to mention a below market sales price.

Looks are a nice bonus, but they don't matter.
Playability... A good setup will damn near any bass play pretty solid. Some are definitely better than others, but between a Plek and a damn good setup I can make any bass play well enough.

Tone... It needs to have some residence to it, but with 4 million available pickups and 2765 different preamps, and my Kemper... Again, I can make damn near anything sound solid.

No matter what I do though, fixing the feel is beyond my skillset.

So true. Well, except for full body vs. hollow body, which has a small effect.

Generally, a pickup in the correct spot, tort, and flats. But no carrots, too high in carbs. Radishes work though and have a bit more flavor.
