After buying said new bass, I hide the similar looking old one in its case, and replace it in the rack with the newer one. If the count and colors are right, she never knows. I hope. Someday, she may call me out, and want a new car!

I just have to like it…
Depends on whether or not the demons can play. Not possessed by demons (this one's negotiable).
^^This^^ pretty much. Personally, my #1 would have to be ""Left Handed", but I agree with numbers 2 and 3. A wide variety of tones, is... nice - and I do have some that fill that bill; but, with a couple dozen basses? "Wide variety of usable tones" from one bass is way down on my list of priorities. I haven't played in a band in decades, and have no desire to do it again; so, that isn't a concern. And, I'm fortunate enough to be able to buy pretty much any bass I want - if it meets the criteria...1) A wide variety of usable tones
2) A quality bass that plays easily and reliably
3) A bass that is visually appealing to some degree (which I freely admit is based on foolish vanity)
My band averages about seven to ten gigs a month, so I’m able to afford an “upscale” bass of my choosing. If I was less fortunate financially I’d place cost as one of my top three needs.
This is me, to the TEE!1. Sound. I don't need a variety of tones in one bass, I need one sound that I can use without having to turn too many knobs.
2. Playability. I don't want to adapt too much to a whole new style of playing.
3. Looks. Because yeah. Looks, you know.
1. Makes me feel connected between what I'm hearing (even through a crappy practice amp) and how seamless it playsWhen you purchase a new bass what are your top 3 bass must haves ?
