It's got to be my blue sparkle-burst Danelectro Rumor, or its identically modded red sparkle-burst sister:
After a little after-market magic, these $195 P-type plywood planks turned out to be the best-sounding, playing, and recording basses I own, and the perfect gigging instruments due to their fly weight and low true $$$ value if lost, stolen, or damaged. See here for my mods.
I think my 2008 MIA P is great -- and it is -- but that assessment is gaged by how well it measures up to these miracle cheapies.

I've started making a point of occasionally not taking it to some gigs just because I want to play some of my other basses - cause if I have it I'll pull it out of the case and play the rest of the gig with it.
Recently I took my newly purchased CIJ fender 62 reissue jazz fretless to a wedding gig and I wanted to show my wife how good it sounded (to justify the purchase to her). I just happened to put the sadowsky on the stand as a backup but after trying the sadowsky, it was just too good to leave it on the stand and I played almost all the gig with the sadowsky (althought the fender jazz is a great instrument).

Either my '95 Lakland 4-94, '66 Jazz neck on a '69 Precision body w/ added Jazz PU, or '96 20th Anniv. Stingray.
man, I guess it depends on the mood mostly, but it varies between 3 basses (of 4 that I own)!
My custom Aries 5 string I would still call primary plainly cause it gets played the most and I did most of my recordings on it - great usable tones on a great feeling bass!
The second (although primary at the moment) would be my MM Sterling HS 4 string for sure - great feel, great sound, great look.
the bass that gets the least playtime has the most mojo - my modded '77 Fender Musicmaster!
but still, never know what I want to play that day!

Far and away my Warwick Thumb BO....though my only other options are a pair of Ibanez Soundgears.

USA Ibanez custom shop ATK 750 is my # 1. Absolutely slamming. Beautiful neck, (thick but comfortable), and can walk a fine line between a Jazz sound and a Ray pretty much based on how hard I dig in. Slaps like an enraged hippo — unbelievable.
Wow, this is great fun -- some very interesting and varied replies. Lots of surprises instead of everyone saying, "My Fender P-Bass," "My Fender Jazz," "My Sadowsky whatever," and "My Ric 4001."

THis one right here. My '88 THumb NT4. It only has the 2-band pre in it so there isn't quite as much tone shaping as could be done but it still sounds fabulous.
